Lag in traffic simulator?

So I've encountered what is (to me) a unique problem, but which is very problematic for my region.

I recently upgraded a RHW-2 route to RHW-4 to handle larger traffic demands - nothing fancy, just a bigger road. Letting the simulator run, I would expect the new road to be recognised after a couple of months, letting sims go to their jobs in the other cities. However it's been about 2 years and the simulator still hasn't calculated the new route, which has led to quite a bit of abandonment and "no road access" zots.

I have a few speculations of what the problem could be. In addition to this city I have also updated the same main highway in the other 3 or 4 connecting cities. I did not do this all at the same time in order to give the simulator time to calculate the new routes, however I wonder if the new route can't be calculated properly over the 3 or 4 tiles it takes to get to the main job sector. It did work properly for the other cities (medium tile cities), but not for this city (the large tile city).

I also wonder if it has anything to do with the RHW simulator itself. At first I used the new RHW neighbor connectors, which seemed to work fine. But when the latest city wouldn't calculate the new route, I decided to change all RHW connectors to ground highway connectors, which has worked well in the past.

Here's the problematic route: as it looks right now, it looks like the route has been newly built and is just waiting for the simulator to calculate it. However this simply isn't happening in my city (again after 2 years of  letting the game run).

Sorry about all the text, But I would love someone to help me out with this... the problem is slowly destroying my city, and possibly me region as well.

It's the NAM unified simulator I believe? I don't have the latest version of the NAM, but I have the next-latest version.

You wouldn't happen to have hailman's Variable Route Buses Plugin in your Plugins, would you?  It's a traffic simulator plugin in disguise and sets everything back to vanilla Maxis settings save for one property--and as such, renders RHW networks completely inoperable.

Hmm no I don't have that plugin. The RHW networks still operate in every other situation except for this particular one. thanks for the idea though.

I just picked up the RHW with the new NAM and friends.  I guess it is back to the sandbox for me until I get my head around some of the features.  I did use a double width road as an interconnect and it worked fine for me.

If you're updating a route over 3 or 4 tiles, it may take the traffic simulator a lot longer than two years to calculate the new routes. I'd recommend running each city for five years, then rotating to the next one.
