What's the difference between using gmax and 3DSmax?

I got the 3D bug and want to create some buildings for a custom region I'm working on. I'm at a crossroad where I'm deciding on which application to use. I have 3DSmax 7, Gmax, and all the SC4 BAT tools ready to go. But don't know which rout to take. I'm leaning towards using 3DSmax 7 because it is a full 3D application and I assume I can get more quality out of it over Gmax. What are the advantages or disadvantages in using one app over another? Which application is used by the top BATers? Or is both used for different things? Thanks in advance.

the difference is about the same as between Notepad and MS Word 2010 or between bicycle and Formula 1 racer car. Still Max7 is very old and you wouldn't be able to get much out of it.- It would, none the less be easier to both model, light and export your buildings.

You would need GMAX anyway to export LODs and create SC4Modle file to which later you will render in insert images in 3ds Max Bat4Max.
