I recently downloaded tons of plug-ins. I had about 450mb worth. Then, I tried to open simcity. It got to the ea title screen then froze, and crashed to my desktop. I tried everything. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game many times with no luck I deleted all my plug-ins and reinstalled the game, and still it crashes. Any help??? I've had many plug-ins before but this didn't happen. Here is my system information:

    Windows Vista Home basic

    Manufacturer:  Hewlett-Packard Company

    Model:  a6200t

    Processor:  Intel® Celeron® CPU   420 @ 1.60GHz

    Memory (RAM):  1023 MB

    System Type:  32-bit

yeah, i'm often crashing to desktop, but in-game, not after splash screen.

I have a backup that contain SimCity 4 that worked perfectly, so I copied it and it worked!

SimCity 4 is unstable! Trust me!

Well there are some things to consider here. Did you recently install something for Sim City, and then this happened? Also, you have a 1.6 ghz processor, so you are running on something that with addons might have stability issues. Seems like you are also running Vista. If you can, run in compatibility mode as well as an admin. Doing these things, and this issue still occuring, please tell us what you have recently done in SC4.

I posted this on several other threads related to this:

    .

Also if you are experiencing crashes on Windows 7, try running it in compatibility for XP SP3, and or as an administrator. Also if there is another user on your computer who plays Sim City and they don't have any problems, then try running the game as that user. Not logged on to them, but as that user.

Also DatPacking your plugins will help as well. Keep your plugins organized.

Also I cannot stress this enough, keep your hard disks maintained . As in defragment them, run disk cleanup. Even run the ChkDsk once every so often. Just go to Computer, click on properties for the drive that your game is stored on, click the tools tab, and then perform an error check. Also frequently check your Event Viewer in the system logs for any errors related to disks. Such as a corrupted file system or a block error. If these are present, run an error check, click Check Now, and then check try to fix errors after checking, click start, and it will perform a check.

Also have you recently make some large changes to your O/S? Reset those changes. Also make sure your game is kept on the C drive. That is where it feels home and cozy at. Hope this helps.
