As of yesterday wine is up to version 1.2 RC7 (RC = Release Candidate).

Things are improving slowly.  On my very old, very small machine I am actually able to play for some time before some kind of glitch messes up the graphics presentation and I have to quit, boot, and open the game again.  I suspect that something is stepping on part of the page table because I have had some out-of-memory (bounds) crashes.

There is something about water lots, especially the car/passenger ferry.  I have had it actually cause a crash on placement, repeatedly.

When I installed RTMT, I had to upgrade the NAM, and added a few other things like the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool.  All of this went in smoothly and everything works.  Of course my load time took a real hit with all these plugins.

I pulled in ilive's reader because I want to consolidate some BAT files into dats.  Getting a program that does not have an installer into wine is an experience and a half.  It took me about four or five days of intermittently fooling with it and talking to the folks at winehq.  Once we figured out that we were missing a windows module (mfc42.dll) things went a lot smoother, especially when this old operating system type was able to clone what had happened to the TSCT when it was installed.  I finally got the reader working for both command line and GUI (off the menu).

You win some, and you learn.

I have a feeling if I had a bigger, faster box of tricks that things would go much better.  As it is, I accept the limitations until I can find the money for a new box.  Considering that I have to find money to air condition this place, get a new microwave oven to replace the one that died after many years of fine service, and finish moving in, I am afraid that a new box is a long way down my wish list.

So, Linux users, that's the latest experience from here in the snow-covered north.
