    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//A%20Region-1124943740.jpg align=baseline>
    Before I move on....lemme give u another splendid update......my medium sized city that i showed u ppl in earliers posts has reached a whopping population of 1.1 Million......YIPEEEEE!!!!!
    A%20Region-1124943786.jpg

    OK now....lets get back......im gonna start with the Northern Areas of my Region
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//A%20Region-1124943838.jpg align=baseline>
    We go into the city and will only follow the highways...this city is not that good to be seen at all:
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nothern%20Areas-Feb.%209,%20691124944036.jpg align=baseline>

    And the Highway continues:

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nothern%20Areas-Feb.%209,%20691124944059.jpg align=baseline>

    Two more Highways pop up.

    The Big Collaboration
    Nothern%20Areas-Feb.%209,%20691124944161

    Now to the Next City, The Eastern Urbz
    Eastern%20Urbz-Feb.%2015,%20771124944633
    The highways that come from the city Northern Areas. The two on the edges got to The big metropolis from different locations.However, the middle highway stays and finishes in this city.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Eastern%20Urbz-Feb.%2016,%20771124944739.jpg align=baseline>
    And we follow the highways till the end. Here lies another set of overpasses 2.gif
    Eastern%20Urbz-Feb.%2016,%20771124944808

    The highway on the left goes straight to the central metropolis,without being interrupted by sims from this city....A bypass. The right most highway picks up the sims from the shown avenue and then goes to my mega city.Well, befor I continue with highway routes, I would like to show u ppl something i made in this city.so here it is:
    Eastern%20Urbz-Jan.%202,%20781124945091.
    I call this area The Isle.It was accomplished by using the Oppie canal set and PEG's trail park.Some more pics:
    Eastern%20Urbz-Jan.%202,%20781124945217.Eastern%20Urbz-Jan.%202,%20781124945186.
    OK....lets get back to our jounery to metropolis......so here is the other part of the highway that leads further
    Eastern%20Urbz-Jan.%202,%20781124945295.
    And finally...the ending of the city....the huge skyscraper signifies that the big city is about to begin:
    Eastern%20Urbz-Feb.%208,%20781124945467.

    Well, till that time u have to wait for a while. Enjoy these posts and only then will i upload the metropolis.3.gif3.gif

    Wow, lots of pics... 46.gif Well, there were some things I liked and some I didn't like that much.

    Your use of highways and highway feeders was really great and quite inspiring, and I like what you did with oppie's canal set and PEG's trail parks - the result looks really beautiful. 29.gif

    What I don't like is your totally uniform square layout. Square blocks everywhere... you know, I'm from Europe, where such strict grids are limited to some city centres only (Budapest is a good example). Still, there are usually some diagonal roads as well.
    In your region, even every city constitutes a square block of its own, and the suburb cities aren't connected at all. Traffic-wise, yes, but they don't blend into each other to form one big urban region. They rather remain separate and somewhat artificial-looking modules.
    Likewise, there is not really a pronounced downtown and a smooth transition into low-rise suburbs, but a rather unaccentuated high-rise forest with wide gaps between each downtown module.
    However, your region doesn't really make it easy to develop an authentic-looking city, because its only really distinctive feature is the river. There are no mountains or valleys, no islands, no steep cliffs or sweeping hills, no majestic mountains... if you have a characteristiv landscape, you can have your city adapt to that landscape, which can result in rather interesting cities.

    Now please note that all this is a question of personal taste and preference - if the way you are building your cities is the way you like, then that's perfectly ok, and I don't want to criticize you. I just want to tell you my honest opinion and maybe show you some possibilities.

    It would be difficult to add any interesting terrain features to your region now, but you could still try a few things:

    - more connections! Try to make the individual blocks disappear by blending them into each other.
    - dare to use diagonals! This will help to break up the monotony.
    - Attempt to shape a vaguely circular or irregularly shaped downtown area instead of a square.
    - smooth transitions! Where the flat suburbs meet the high-rise downtown, try using medium dense zones, so that the silhouette of your city would look more or less like a mountain (rising slowly towards the top) instead of a staircase.

    On a side note, your education graph indicates that you are using a BAT which is so abdly adjusted that it effectively acts like a cheat. This is not your fault, of course. The BATter didn't check for correct stats, so the effect of the building is too strong now. That's the case with many educational BATs, unfortunately. Now your EQ is unnaturally high so that you will have an artificially high demand for CO$$$ and R$$$.

    Well, anyway: Please don't let my personal opinion discourage you. You just go on and play the game in whatever way you like to play it and be happy with it. If you want to consider some of the suggestions or comments I made, that's fine - if not, no problem. 1.gif Hope to see more from you - I bet this won't be your last region, eh? 2.gif

    Gee thanx for such a healthy criticism. I liked that someone has a difference of opinion. In such scenario, u learn alot.

    So now, I wud also luv to answer ur questions...I hope u also appreciate difference of opinion...3.gif

    well, this was my first ever region, so my basic objective was to get high rises. So thats y I used the basic squarish structure. u shud also have noticed that I havent placed any seas on my region. But next time, I am gonna make diagonal highways merging down to my megapolis, and that megapolis will be next to a big sea side with heavy amount of ports and embankments.....truely urban style. Bottom line...I am definitely gonna go with this point 44.gif

    u again r very true about the silouette thing. Beleive me, it was all the mountain kinda thing. When i reached my central city, i then started moving outwards to my cities next to it. Plus,my hunger to make one of my cities to reach 1 Million was going crazy. Thats y u also see aggressive growth on my outskirts. But ur point of putting medium zones is pretty reasonable. If I place them at my outer circles, i will definitely be having a silouette of a mountain 2.gif

    Last point about education. Well, u wont beleive this.....I havent used any MOD of education. Only modd i am using is of network add-on mod. So the aggressive amount of growth u see is that i placed very minor amount of commercial zones in outer cities...close to none. so,the residentials kept on coming and the demand for commerce went up until the exhaust limit was reached. When i went on to further construct the centre city....it started exploding.

    dude, wait till u see my Central Metropolis. It is way to much alive.

    Thanks alot for everything

    Ah, I see... Highrises, huh? Well, I'd say you definitely reached your goal. 18.gif

    And I agree with you: Turning this region into something totally different would be extremely much work, maybe impossible. Making an all new region and using your experiences gained in this first region there sounds like a better approach.

    Well, good luck and hope to see your second, improved region some day! 1.gif

    Oh, and before I forget:

    @ that education thingy:
    I wasn't supecting you of using any education mod, and I didn't mean the overall demand / growth rate.

    What I meant is the EQ graph you showed in one picture: It suddenly jumped to the max, which is something unnatural. Do you have any BATs with educational function (museum, school, library etc.) in your plugins folder? There are some with rather exaggerated stats out there. SWI21's unbelievably beautiful Vallianios Library of Athens is one of these buildings, but there are many more.

    danielcote: First of all, WELCOME TO SIMTROPOLIS!

    Second, not to rain on your parade, but this thread is, and probably will remain, dead. For future reference, if the last post was a year+ ago, the thread is more than likely to be permanently dead.

    The ST staff don't like to see dead threads revived, so just be careful next time.

    No hard feelings,

    And you saw it after another three... well, since this CJ hasn't been updated in about six years, I'm going to lock it. If you have any objections to this and would like it unlocked so you can continue it, PM me or another of the CJ staff. Although you probably have quite different cities now, so I would recommend starting another CJ to display those.

    To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

    Me as well, but have never really stopped playing. I pick up SC 4 once or twice every year and I still sneak into Simtrop incognito, looking for cool original content.

    @simcitic, not completely accurate.  Peruse through here if you're interested in the technical aspects of why the disc-based version won't work in Windows 10:

    However, digital versions do work with Windows 10 with no problem.  The version from GoG is highly recommended as no online connection is needed to run it.  GoG puts it on sale for $9.99 every month or two.

    You may be able to get Origin to redeem your CD-key and give you a completely patched digital version.  If they won't, do not purchase a new copy from Origin.  The reasons why are also discussed in the above topic.
