Power Grid doesn't seem to work

I have just started playing Simcity 4 Deluxe.

After filling my region up with cities, I have decided to link them up in a single power grid so that one of my cities can be a a landfill site with incinerators. I dezoned some of my agricultural land on the fringes to build a power grid linking up the cities, but after i've built the incinerator and there is spare electrical capacity, there isn't this option to export power. It's perfectly okay with importing garbage.

Is this a bug? or have I built the power grid wrongly? but isn't it just like building roads?

You have to build power poles off the edge of your supplying city just like a road going out.  The supplied city will gain a couple of power poles at the juncture.  These are precious and must not be lost, or you get to do it again.  The power poles must, of course, be powered, so need to be withing four grid squares of a powered lot.

Now, you may not be able to set up a neighbor deal immediately unless the receiving city needs the power, can afford it for a year, and won't leave the selling city without enough power.  The seller must have about a 20% surplus over calculated annual need.

If your transmission towers start sparking, check to see that you are not under-running your power plants.  This causes the towers to spark, smoke and eventually burn.

    Good luck.

Also it isn't "instant" .. you must run the simulator long enough for it to catch up on the status.. at least one "cycle" which for power I believe is approx monthly

Thanks for your responses =) will try it out soon

Went to try it out and still no luck:

City A has a 100% surplus while City B is in serious deficit

Power poles working fine and connected (I have even installed 2 connections in case one of them fails)

CIty B is in financial surplus (can afford power)

Ran the simulator long enough (about a year)

Hope this picture will help though.

I have solved the problem =D

My problem was not having enough cash surplus, after I took out a loan of $20,000 power runs smoothly through my power lines.

Thank you all for your help
