Getting back into SimCity...

It's been a long, long time since I last played SimCity. I just re-installed the game and before I start, I was curious what the community had in mind for must-have downloads. Any insight would be great, thanks.

I like the rural towns, so any suggestions there would be great.

NAM

For small towns check out the users Spa and JBSimio, find them on the stex. Also, try searching "small towns"

NAM for all cities, get it.

RHW (Real Highway Mod) for cities you want more realstic freeways with 2-10 lanes.

NWM (Network Widening Mod) add a boost of "functional" realism to your sreets/one ways/avenues with new types of streets, some with new turningl anes and three laned avenues even! There is a lot too it.

Road Top Mass Transit, saves a lot of space and is pretty relastic. Draw back is it is not yet compatible with NWM streets, so if you plan on using a lot of NWM, might not need this one.

Radius Doubling Mod, makes the civic buildings have realstic radius! Recomend if you don't plan on downloading other civic buildings want to use defualt ones.

Industrial Quadrupler (x4), must have all cities! No more the days of a whole city full of industral just to meet demands!

Some sort of water mod & Terrain mod many of these to pick from so use the one that best fits your needs (desert, tropical, wastelands, etc)

Edit: NAM, RHW, NWM all use things called "puzzle peices" and or "starter peices"  at one point or another if you plan on using either or all of these mods, you'll need to take time to become full familar with them. Check out the read-mes and do a few pratice cities using all the different peices until you feel ready to use them in a read city. This will save you a lot of frustration in the long run. But again, NAM is a must have because even if you don't want to use the puzzle peices and other features it has (like ground rail) then at least install it for it's traffic simulators. It really fixed the bugs and problems Maxis did not and makes for a more realstic simulation.

Hope this list helps!

Get some of the trees on the stex too, way better than the default ones.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your advice! Any more is welcomed, I'm planning on starting tonight. I'll play around with NAM and the others mentioned.

By the way, what is the "Rural Highway Mod", I saw that somewhere? Anyone?

You're welcome and the RHW is a whole new freeway system that in may ways is far supior to that of the Maxis one.

I just updated my CJ with a lot of pictures using the RHW and what it can do, feel free to take a look and you will some of the crazy and also simple things you can do with it.

I think seeing it for yourself, well better explain than reading about it.

Hi, I do believe we're on the same wavelength. I recently had heart surgery and was hospitalized for a month. After I returned home, I swapped my laptop with my brother's netbook so I lost my optical drive and now can only play on my desktop.I also lost a great storage of downloads too.  I was told that you can only play the game using the original disk. In fact, I'm going to get started now.

Hope you enjoy your return to the City...take care

Markus J, thanks a lot... I'll take a look at your journal. I downloaded the industry and radius mod and started playing around. It's so great to get back into this, I forgot how much I enjoyed it!

    MsProll21, hope you're feeling better!

Thanks again, the Simtropolis community amazes me yet again!
