simcity was working fine then I took the disk out of the computer for one day then when I put it back in it freezes when I try to load any of my cities. I didn't add any plug-ins and I have the latest patch. i'm using vista with 4.00 G of RAM. the game loads fine and I can do stuff in region view, but freezes on the loading city screen and simcity stops responding.

Did you do anything to your system when you had the disk out?  If so, you need to think this through.

Anyway, check the disk for scratches, and if there are any, polish them out.  Now, make sure your copy of the .exe file on your hard disk is has version number 1.1.640.  This is the fully patched edition.  If it is not, apply the proper patches.

Run the game in compatibility mode, either Win98 or WinXP.  It doesn't do well with Vista native mode.

Make sure you have lots of swap space.  You could need up to 4GB (or more), especially if you have a large plug-in suite.  If you don't know how to set this, ask your local geek.  Set both the minimum and maximum swap space the same.

Come back if you have any more trouble.

thank you for the help, I found out that the Pegasus Coast Guard Station I've had for 3 months was causing the problem.

It works fine for me. Is it the lot or that you have incompatibilities in your setup? As I recall the station counts as an airport (or seaport) I forget which. Conflicting ports can cause problems if you have other ports. This is discussed at length in various places if you care to read about it.
