How important is it to have bus stops on a particular side of the street? Even with NAM making things more realistic I can never really seem to figure out why some bus stops work and some don't.

If I have a bus stop on one side of the street do I need a second one on the other for return trips?

no, the sims return to the original bus stop in the evening commute, I believe.

I wondered this too when I first started out.  It turns out that it makes no difference at all; a single bus stop serves both sides of a street or road equally.  The reason for this is that it's actually serving the tile, and both lanes are on the same tile.  For an avenue, a bus stop would not automatically serve both sides of an avenue, because they're on different tiles, but if you put the bus stop by a tile where there's a crossing in the avenue, it's generally easy enough for the Sims to reach it in both directions.  Or you could use the RTMT bus stops, which automatically cover both sides of an avenue, and also don't take up any extra real estate.

Thanks for the replies. For now I'm gonna hold off on the RTMT mod but I'm gonna bookmark it for the future.
