Cities not loading in region view

Hi all.  I've been trying to get Simcity 4 Deluxe running again and I've encountered a problem.  It seems that whenever I enter a lot and save, it disappears from my region view.  There's just an empty hole there instead.  I checked the regions folder in My Documents, and the cities are saving, because I can see the filename change, but I guess they don't get loaded by the region view.  I tried patching to the latest version and reinstalling, but to no avail.  I'm running on a laptop with windows vista, but the computer has run this before with no problems like this.  Anyone know what might have happened or a fix?

Are you able to re-enter the cities that have "disappeared"? Also, does it do it when you "Save & Exit"? If you haven't, you might try to "Save" during the game, then exit without saving to see if the same thing happens. Just a thought...

Hi there.  No, I am not able to re-enter the city afterwards, as there is nothing to click on, just a hole.  I have tried saving then exiting without saving and it did not help.  Thanks for the reply though.

Another fact I discovered...  One of the cities I made to test this does have it's name appear on the region map, but it is not in the right place.  It appears to be under an unused lot.  This leads me to believe that the files are still being accessed, but the map is being misconstructed for some reason.

Hmmm... This usually means the city file(s) have become corrupted in some way.

Have you tried turning off any background programs running while playing the game - antivirus programs and such? Or not running other programs while running SC4? Some have noticed these might interfere with game saves.

Well I'll be...  Turning off Avast Antivirus has fixed the problem.  Thanks a lot mate.
