GLR-to-Subway transition issues

So, I'm having an issue with the GLR-to-Subway transition. I'm getting a brown box (well, actually I use the multi-color smudge mod) despite having the required dependencies. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Are you using the NDEX one or the GLR to Hillside?

For NDEX, you need the NDEX Global Essentials file and the NDEX Rail-to-Subway Transition Lot. Links can be found at the GLR-to-Subway transition download page on the stex.

The GLR to Hillside Subway transitition might need additional Hillside to Subway network downloads.

I figured it out. Despite having just downloaded it within the past two weeks I somehow managed to grab an outdated version of the Global Essentials file. I got the proper one and everything is working fine now.

Hey, I also have the brown box. I found two versions of NDEX Global Essentials.dat : one is 604kb and filedate 6/13/05, the newer (version 2) is 1440kb dated 12/14/07. (The lot file I have is "NDEX - GLR-to-Subway Transition (3x1)_ce34b22a.SC4Lot"). Neither Essentials file works for me -- I get the brown box no matter which Essentials file I have in the folder.

Is there a yet-newer Essentials file? I have searched but found no other versions. I have looked for other dependencies (some texture file, or prop pack, for instance) but have found no other dependencies listed.

I put the two files in the plugins folder (in a folder named "NDEX and Associates"). So, I really can't say why I'm still getting the brown box.

Am I doing anything different than you?

    TIA,

Did you also download and install the NDEX Rail-to-Subway Transition? It is needed to provide the model for the GLR-to-Subway lot. Without it, the boxes will show up.

Hey, thanks for the info. I downloaded and installed the ndex rail to sub transition you provided the link to. I don't know how you knew it was needed -- for that matter, I don't see how I could have known it was needed. You must therefore be a genius. :-)

Oddly, the ndex rail to sub transition installation removed the rail to sub formerly found in the underground rail pieces (which were installed by NAM, I believe). Another oddity: though I now have two ndex lots (rail to sub and glr to sub), both lots look like rail going down, i.e. the glr version doesn't look like glr. I tested it, though, and it functions as glr

Thanks again, CaptCity. I really appreciate your reply!

@Gecko001: The file actually lists the Rail-Subway Transition lot as a dependency.

Jim546, after reading your note I went back to look, because I could swear I looked for dependencies. You are right: it is listed right there on the glr to sub page. My eyes actually 'skipped' the "Rail" portion of the name: I read it as "GLR".  It's like when you're reading a math problem and see 2+2=5, but your eyes skip over it and see 2+2=4. Thanks for pointing that out. I try to be careful and thorough, but don't always succeed. I'll take this lesson to heart.

    Best regards, gecko001

Actually, the piece that comes in NAM is not a rail-to-sub transition piece but an underground rail piece, so I don't know if we're thinking of the same thing. Having the NDEX transition lots installed shouldn't have eliminated the NAM underground rail piece.

Yes, both lots are very similar in appearance, but have been pathed for the different transit rail networks.

" Actually, the piece that comes in NAM is not a rail-to-sub transition piece but an underground rail piece..."

Yes, CaptCity, that is what I meant to say: the underground rail piece had disappeared. But here today, it is back again. I must stop downloading/installing/testing so late at night: my brain's obviously half-baked. Sorry to have sounded a false alarm on that.

I am so new (only two weeks) into the user-modified SimCity that I am up to all hours, in complete amazement at all the changes that these clever people have produced. I have been dumbfounded: I had played vanilla SC Deluxe since it came out (actually I have played SimCity since the first version came out -- black and white, somewhere around 1992). I had no idea (til two weeks ago) that all these fine people had so extended and enhanced the game. I'll try to shut down earlier and get a bit more sleep, so as to not sound any more false alarms.

    Thanks again, gecko001
