Hello!

I am an architecture student who has played Sim City 4 for a while now, and I have even used the old GMAX/BAT combo. I am interested in learning more about this BAT for 3DS Max. A friend of mine directed me here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PS: Additional information for the survey:

AMD Phenom II Quad Core, 2.8 GhZ

8GB RAM

NVIDIA GEFORCE (I forgot if it has 256 or 512 MB of Memory)

1TB HD

3DS Max 2010 Student Edition

    Nachtblitzer:

all you have to do is to download latest publicly available version of Bat4Max (currently v 4.5) and carefully read installation and usage instructions found here.

Mind you you would still need to have GMAX and original BAT installed, as well as SC4.

This will get you started. I assume you know your way around the 3ds Max. There is nothing special about modeling for SC4. With perhaps a slight exception of scaling... Most BATers tend to scale their models about 130% on Z axis to compensate for the view distortion. This was, actually recommended by Maxis itself in the help for original GMAX BAT.

well, you can actually use both... 2011 has some advantages (like inclusion of Polyboost tool set, MentalRay proxies, etc) but also some apparent problems, some of which may be cosmetic (caddy interface for instance), but also some of plugins for it miss some functionality - you can't replace foliage on Trees from Onyx Garden with your own custom geometry in max plugins for Max 2009 and later, for instance. It's just an example.

so if you can, have both it may be advantageous in some cases.
