Google Maps FAIL

Two Google technicians are sitting in a McDonalds, taking a pit stop. One says "I have a great idea. Lets go drive the streetview car around at night when its dark and you can't see anything!". The other says "Gee, perfect!"

I take that to mean that google is using a live satellite feed.  This is hardly a failure.

The google streetview vehicles don't rely on live satellite feeds, they rely on a mounted camera ( I believe on top of the vehicle ).  As these vehicles can't be in all locations 24/7 the images are generally outdated ( by a few years at most ). 

Still I would never have thought they'd try to capture images at night ( when you can hardly see the surrounding street ), it just defeats the puropse of streetview.

Yeah, there isn't anything to look at for a while, but if you head west, you can see some fast food places all lit up.

Though I think It'd be cool though if they did some night vision street view shots.

Actually, i think Times Square would be a pretty cool thing at night in Google Streetview...
