No commercial desirability anywhere in city.

Okay, so my city has about 150 000 people in it, and a reasonably stable layout... Commute times are okay, pollution is fine, traffic is okay, and the city's desirability for every other zone type is good.

But the commercial buildings, of all sizes are becoming abandoned because there is not one place on the map that has good commercial desirability (on the commercial desirability map, everything is red.)

It only recently started happening too, and I haven't made any major changes to the city's infrastructure for layout.

I've been searching for help/fixes to this problem for hours now, and I can't seem to find anything of any help whatsoever.

I found something about a 'force desirability' mod on a page somewhere, if anyone knows anything about that it would be great... I don't really care if I'm cheating, I just want to make a city that works how I want it to. Any other recommendations would be wonderful as well.

Please, any help would be much appreciated. =D

First of all, welcome to Simtropolis39.gif

The thread name and description is good, and so is everything else, you have written.

Check your RCI, there have to be a demand for the commercial buildings. If there is no demand, the buildings will not grow. Could you please post a picture of the Co$ desirability, it would make it a bit easier to help you then.

That desirability map doesn't look TOO bad. High wealth by default are much more picky on where they build. It might help if you also post the zones data map so that we can see where your commercial zones are related to other zones. Maybe you placed them too close to Industrial zones?

You can also try querying the abandoned commercial buildings to see why they abandoned, and get a list of effects that affect desirability. Generally, high pollution and low security (no police or fire) is bad, and high traffic (might have to be pedestrian traffic) is good. Going by your desirability map, I can see some areas with high traffic where you can zone commercial and get results.

It could also be as ImVhOzzi said that the problem is actually that you don't have any demand for the kinds of commercial you want. Check the expanded RCI graph (you can click on the one in the toolbar or find it in Graphs view) and make sure you have demand.

ImVhOzzi: I've uploaded a screenshot of the RCI Graph here... Now, their all up... But before, they were all down, very low, and all the buildings were fine.

yunxiang: I've got a screenshot of the zoning here. Again, this is how I've had my city the entire time I've been playing it, it was fine up unto recently.

Another problem is that, say I zone for commercial in an area that had good desirability now, in a few minutes, it will have changed, and it all starts again... Happened to quite a few cities I've created... Quite annoying!

    Thanks again, =]

To me, it seems like the zoning is the problem. Try seperating your industrial zones from your commercial and residential zones. On the zoning map, your industrial zones is mixed together with the residential and commercial zones. Start making industry areas, commercial, and residential areas seperated. Then you can start mixing your zones, commercial zones nearby industrial zones does make hi-tech industry more common.

    Hope it helps!

Try downloading the Plopmatic 9000; It boosts all demand to skyrocket.

Or try putting landmarks. THIS IS CRUCIAL: PUT LANDMARKS TO STIMULATE DEMAND.

Your commercial zones are located too close to industry; if there is even manufacturing industry in those areas, the pollution will scare away CO$$$. Also, you need to try and zone commercial mostly on heavily traveled main roads. Higher traffic increases commercial desirability. Place some zones on your most congested roads and then lay down some plazas nearby to raise desirability.
