simcity4. Update Sku2-to-p2 issues

Hi all.

Recently ive had problems with running simcity 4 and rush hour, so i decided to uninstall completely, and reinstall. I got as far as installing simcity4, when i decided to update it to 1.0.272. (before updating to rushhour).

After installing it complains "old file not found. however, a file of the same name was found. no update done since file contents do not match", but continues through the installation.

I later realised only a few pieces of data got updated from 2002 to 2003, which was mentioned in the update.

Update improvements.

Step 3) Verify your game has been updated. If your game is updated, all of the following files will have 2003 timestamps, not 2002:

• \\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\dbghelp.dll

Simcity_1 / sound.dat  stays at 2002, and dbghelp.dll stays at 2001.

this might be causing my previous issue whereby my game tries to load but ends up back on desktop. After looking through the forums, a few state that the update might be wrong or that your using an illegal copy. This isnt true. i have a genuine copy of simcity 4 and simcity4 rush hour.

How do i get those missing files to update??? im using the correct patch ( european ).

Normally I'd say you might be mixing game versions and patches, but you say you had it installed before... You might try installing SC4 Regular and then Rush Hour. You don't need to install the patch for .272 as the same fixes are included in Rush Hour. After that, if it works, you can update Rush Hour with the correct EP1 patch.

Well, i did do just that and its annoying me soo much. last night ive had to install sc4 several times. endless amount of times. Sometimes sc4 worked but most of the time i got a black screen before the intro. i had to reinstall to get these results. When sc4 did work, i tried changing settings ingame, created a region, started a city saved it and came out. After which i installed sc4 rush hour, and as a result every single time i try rush hour, i get a black screen before the introduction video.

I'm guessing the disks are either had it or my pc isnt installing it properly. what i cant understand is that the disks seem fine without alot of scratches, and my disk drive is fine. in the last day or so ive install unreal tournament 3 of disk and is fine. i even watched a few films off my disk drive. no problem. the disks on the other hand also work as ive installed rush hour on another pc but cannot access it most of the time.

when sc4 does work and i try to install rush hour, i end up with a black screen and i do wish i can reinstall rushhour over and over without uninstalling sc4 too. reason being is that sc4 sometimes works but rush hour clearly ruins it.

i live in the UK and have the british version of the game. therefore when i patch i use the european sku2 patches. It seems that everytime i get a good install the patches go through fine, but when i get a blank black screen, the patches complain. this is the same for the second update for rush hour. EP1 i believe. Ive looked at the files and some of the .DAT and ini files are out of date to the according updates.

its not like me to torrent games, but im most probably gunna download a sc4 and rushhour using my cd key's, its probably the only way for sure whether the game will run at all on my system, concidering its a high spec pc.

I tried downloading the update from Apple's site, as for years EA has discontinued support for SC4, but it didn't work. Said I needed a serial number, yet both of my copies (i bought SC4 twice because one copy was stolen) never had a serial number either on the box or the case.

The one on apple's site is surely the version from Aspyr, which is for the apple O/S.  I hope you have that clear.

I have two serial numbers, one in the case that is worthless and another on the catalog that works, but then the exe. file I get is the most basic one : the 1.1.613.0

 

lots of complaints on amazon about sim city 4. 

 

don't purchase game from amazon, 1 out of 3 customers seem to be getting screwed.

613 is SKU2 (International), so you need this one to update to 638.  To get to 640 after updating to 638 you need this one.

 

So Amazon shipped you the CDs, eh?  They have (or have had) the digital download version 641, so why did they sell you the disks?  641 runs without any CDs and is fully patched to the 640 level as delivered.

 

There is a restriction if you are overseas, I believe.
