RIVIERA is a city in a region with VOLKA being the regional capital... RIVIERA is very isolated from other citites and sits in the middle of wilderness... The city currently has 5,000 residents and has a mix of industry, commercial and residential uses scattered all over town. Welcome all vistors!!!

Let's start off by looking at the overhead view of RIVIERA...

Followed by a traffic congestion map:

And some picture-like angled overview shots:

As you could probably tell from the pictures above, RIVIERA's development so far is concentrated on the Main Island (Old Town) with mixed land uses, and mostly residential development across the bridge (New Town). Let's begin with looking at some photos from New Town, where most RIVERA's folks reside...

But first, the close-up of New Town RIVIERA -- please note the extensive greenbelt!!!

Thank you --- I'm going to try to keep this town contained -- no skyscrapers are to be expected.... Real life-like small town with lots of green / open space....

Thanks for your comments, johannesut & YannickMtl --- btw, don't forget I also have a LOUISIANA journal 2.gif ..... My idea is to have all those towns grow as much as possible in conjunction /at the same time in 'real-time' if possible - meaning all those towns would grow together and developments in one towns would influence other nearby towns.... Of course, this was much better developed in old SC4 on a regional map, but CXL is OK as well.. I only have one map left to develop on the regional Valley map.... So I plan to work on all these 5 maps continuously... And THEN, add some towns from other regional CXL maps into the mix.... OK, my head is starting to spin around now from the web of ideas inside of it and the complexity associated with trying to develop all those towns at once, so I'll stop now....

Again, any comments are much appreciated + they make it all worthwhile --- hopefully we can all make the best of this game/simulation and influence each other in a positive way while retaining our individual preferences/ideas...

Another great start Jazy!! You are far too patient to deal with growing multiple cities at once..... I keep going over mine constantly changing things; I couldn't imagine doing several cities!

Welcome back to RIVIERA -- the city has grown quite a bit from the last time you visiited; in fact, it TRIPLED its population, now at 15,000. Here's an overview map - note teh extensive greenbelts - second ring has been nearly completed in New Riviera across the river from the Old Town!:

Police headquarters were established right by the entrance to that bridge:

    Photobucket

In New Riviera, a mixed-use downtown of sorts has grown into a sizable district:

    Photobucket

Housing in that area has the highest density in the whole town - one street in particular, DENSE STREET, has density reminescent of much larger cities:

And a great shopping district for everyone in town:

Here's an overview of this part of Riviera, you can see it in the foreground, with a lake behind it and still many lots for sale/under construction.

    Photobucket

Well, this was the update -- here's your farewell shot and thanks for visiting!!!

Nice! What kind of shop is that in the 3rd last pic? Do you have the limited edition? Otherwise could you just tell me what it is 3.gif

It's a Tasty Island restaurant -- great stopover for everyone interested in spending some time by the nearby lake/forest... No, I have regular edition --- I didn't want to pay extra for a few maps as I figured eventually end users like us will be creating maps and other custom content like buildings. 4.gif

When do you unlock it or is it just a usual low/med/high denset shop?

I think some of those factories/shops only unlock when your city is all low/medium density, as it's the first time I've seen this shop myself + some other factories I've not seen before --- as you can tell RIVIERA is a low-density small city that covers a large area, so maybe that's what triggered these buildings to unlock - I don't know.

Never mind, i found it 2.gif It's a low density shop!

I really like the mid-denset street pictures, especially the one with the trees in front and the appartements behind.

Welcome to update #3! RIVIERA has more than doubled its population since your last visit.... The biggest issue the town has had to deal with just recently is increased traffic congestion -- nearly all roadways in RIVIERA are very narrow and do not have the capacity to handle the rapid increase in traffic.. We will have to wait and see how local transportation planners respond to this challenge -- ont he one hand, they are willing to widen the roads now, ont he other hand, they have to remember that local residents want to preserve the small town qwuality of life in RIVIERA --- they know that large roads will bring more traffic to the toan + result in more growth...

Anyhow, here's an overview map of the town:

WElcome to update #5!!!! RIVIERA has again nearly doubled in its population since the last update... The town has definitely grown quite a bit since your last visit, but still retains a small-town feel.

Some skyline shots -- note a few skyscrapers even!!:

Traffic has been so bad in Nova Riviera that some roadway widening was in order:

The new Bus Depot in Riviera --- its setting has been called unfortunate by many Riviera residents since it's located right by the most congested bridge in the area, and buses further increase that congestion...

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!! Since Riviera's residents are generally 'anti-growth,' and want to preserve the small-town feel of the city,  it will be interesting to see how this city develops... Stay tuned for the next update toi find out!
