Cant use alt-shift-control-R to render regions!

I have been having lots of problems lately getting the SKU1_638 patch to install properly on my XP64 system.  I've been able to get that going just fine, but now for some reason I cannot use the alt-shift-control-R command to render a region from a JPEG.  I get the file selection menu and can select an image from which to render, but nothing happens.  When I intentionally select an image that does not correlate with the size of the config.bmp, I don't get the usual error message, either.  Electronic Arts has said that it does not offer technical assistance on importing regions.  (One wonders whether they expect everyone playing SC4 to hand-terraform every map on which they play.)  Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any known fixes?

I have had that same problem before... but unfortunately I don't know how I got it fixed. Maybe I reinstalled the game? 42.gif

When importing a map for the Region; there are only two reasons why it won't import;
1. Size of the map is incorrect & the game tells you this. Terrain Maps are calculated as follows; Pixel size of config map x 64 + 1 = Terrain Map pixel size.
2. Format of the Terrain map you're importing is incorrect, which the game fails to point out. It just sits there. Terrain maps need to be greyscale image.

I don't think there's anything else that would prevent it from actually starting the import process. If there is, it may be OS related or some other issue, but doubt it.

I get that constantly! Just load a different region and then go back and load your previous region and try cntrl and shft + R again and it will pop right up.

Oh also, That may mean your jpg is cofigured wrong and not 8 bit. That part about the bits is important or nothing will happen, nothing at all.

hmm don't know if this works;

Try highlightning a city in your region by clicking on one of the areas. Now try pressing shift+ctrl+alt+r ...
tell me if it works?

I don't know why but I had to do this all the time before...

take care

This is happening to me right now! I'd just reinstalled the game for the first time in months, looking forward to playing a new city, only to be bizzarly thwarted by this absurd incident before I got properly started. The control-shift-alt-r combination suddenly has absolutely no effect. The menu no longer shows up. One minute it worked, the next it didn't. I've reinstalled the game, rebooted and restarted, deleted all plugins, twiddled with all knobs, and still nada. Now, the only thing I did between the last time it worked and the first time it didn't was to install new display drivers, so that is my prime suspect in the matter. I've tried to install an old set, but I suspect that I haven't been able to overwrite all files from the most recent ones.

It's just really boggling. There's some pesky file, somewhere, causing it. I guess this means reinstalling Windows, something that I seriously can't be bothered to do right now - that means way too much reinstalling programs and tuning stuff. So if someone, somewhere, has a clue to how to fix this, I'd be unspeakably happy.

But then again, perhaps someone in some higher realm is trying to tell me that I really don't have time to play the game now (which I already know perfectly well deep down 2.gif ).

Ive also had this problem
Theres one of two things that could be wrong here
- You JPG. picture doesnt match the size of your BMP. File so 1024x768 jpg to 640X650 BMP

- Or what happened with me is just restart your game and it should work

No, dude. The problem is, I repeat, when I hit control-shift-alt-r, that nice old blue menu utterly fails to appear. I've restarted. I've reinstalled. Still SOL.

I really thought I'd seen all the weird bugs and errors this game and its entourage of apps was able to throw at me by now, but it still manages to amaze me. 47.gif

I do suspect those display drivers, I'm just hoping it may be something else that can be fixed without flushing out my OS.

Do you have a wireless keyboard? If so, you may have trouble.

Made any hardware/software changes? 1.gif

Have you tried using a different keyboard? Also have you checked your keyboard settings and accessibility options in the control panel to see if there is something odd in there, eg sticky keys, a custom setting on the booster keys etc.

This happened to me before too. I would get the blue window, but it wouldn't do anything when I clicked on the map I wanted rendered. I did not reinstall the game or make any other adjustment. In fact, I had just given up on being able to render maps and downloaded a couple of the Mapp Squad's pre-rendered maps. Recently, however, I discovered it's working again. Mysterious...

Well, I went ahead and reinstalled Windows after all, installed the game again, and the cute little blue menu is back! Lord knows what the problem was, but I'm back in business. 44.gif

I took the opportunity to get a nice new Windows skin and give my system a general makeover as well, so it was probably all for the best. Now, down to the task of reinstalling the LE, SimCity Tool, the Reader, the BAT, etc, etc...

Ah... I love this game. *kissing my game disk*

Personally, I think the problem is quite simple ...

SC4 would appear to be female, - so to prevent these nagging little problems, all you have to do is talk nicely to her, agree with everything she wants to do, never, repeat NEVER tell her she is wrong, and generally just sit back and be patient when she is having a bad day !!! With a little compassion, and patience she will eventually love you as much as you love her 9.gif
