The stations by Ralphaelninja work fine for underground rail, as well as any other rail stations (including the Maxis one) that do not have a rail line passing through their lots. Additionally, the next version of RTMT will have stations specifically designed for underground rail.

There is no network extension where underground rail runs parallel under GLR. However, the stations I mentioned in my previous post will include lots where underground rail crosses under ped mall GLR.

Strange.  For.  Some reason nobody uses the underground rail.  Are there any options to make it go underground while connecting with a bordering city?

Just make a regular rail connection to your bordering city, and then plop the underground rail puzzle pieces on top of it. That should work.

^ I was just about to ask.. whats the difference between a subway and an underground rail?

I have my sim's rail system going through a tunnel to my CBD island, similar to how Manhattan is. I just use the piece to convert el-rail -> subway for the entrance and exit.

Underground rail is designed for the heavy rail network, which means it carries trains. I assume it can carry the freight trains as well as passenger trains. The subway converters will do what their name says - convert rail traffic into subway traffic, it is not the same as underground rail.

Oh my!!!! I have just discovered a wealth of information. Personally, I like the underground rail but my biggest complaint is underground lines can't intersect one another. I'm not talk about a full blown underground intersection, just a small four way intersection. Now that I think about a full blown underground intersection would not be so bad. Anyway can't wait for the new stations to come out. In the meantime I guess the Warsaw station will have to work.

A while ago, I created ESURE - Express Subways and Underground Rail Extensions.  It contains the four-way underground rail lots that do what you want.  I'm going to release it on the STEX in a while, but in the mean time, the final version is ready, so have fun with it!  I haven't made a Readme file yet, but the thread I mentioned will serve fine as one for now.

This is great - one thing, could the lots not require power? I am using this to send rail to subway under a few of my more complicated RHW intersections.

That's a good point. To be realistic, these lots should require power. Yet no underground network in SC4 does. So I should fix these to go along with the convention and remove the power requirement.

There. The download a couple of posts back now has no power requirements.

Thanks! These are great - they allow a lot of flexibility with regular rail instead of me having to go to GLR all the time.

Is the file corrupt? WIndows refuses to open mine.

I just downloaded it and opened it in a variety of ways with no problem. Try downloading it again, or get a free Zip program such as 7Zip.
