I was snooping around at the Wal-Mart I work at and found the original blueprints. I've never done any 3d work before and I figured this would be as good of a place to start as any. Here's my progress so far:

This is VERY MUCH  work in progress. I can't take the blueprints home so I keep having to go back to work and make more notes on sizes, etc. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Please, no wal-mart sucks, etc posts.

Have you thought about scaling the size back a bit to make it more plausible in the SC4 world? I remember seeing that when Baco made his Wal-Mart to real-world scale, it would've taken up a 10x10 for the building alone (which I think is the same size lot as the Souel - sp? - Soccer Stadium). It wouldn't be as realistic, but if you want to have a growable version, at least for now it can't be any larger than 6x6 (for the lot - so your building would have to be a bit smaller than that). The height itself is probably fine, but the length and width will make it huge.

Other than that, you've got a solid model going there. I for one look forward to seeing its progress.

It looks good! Just so you know, baco's walmart had a sign that said supercenter.

Gilpo's does too, vid. You have to look really close in the picture, but right underneath the Wal-Mart lettering is the yellow Supercenter lettering.

Did I say something bad...???

Great Work and please dont scale it down. Wal Mart is what urban sprawl in america is all about and the shear size of a super center is nothing you would want to be growable anyway. The roof is going to be the hardest so i recomend making a few places higher than others even if its not really that way also add all the HVAC units and stuff and put in some 2 foot by 2 foot sky lights on a grid this will all really break the monotony of a large walmark roof. Also make sure and soo the signs in acctuall 3d and not a texture same with the trim that runs around the building. I had acctually started a walkmark last night and i cant thank you enough for doing this becuase now i dont have to do mine. Anyways its looking great. If do run into a point where the size is just to large like 10x10 or something just get rid of the parking lot many users just build there own parking lots anymore anyways.

I agree that it should be smaller. It will be huge as it is now! It will be rivaling the 18x17 WTC plaza which was 16 acres in real life. You may want to use that as a scale... Otherwise your building looks good.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

This looks good, the only experience of Wal Mart I have is going to America, but this looks about right!
Mind you they are starting to fill the UK with ASDA stores, so it might be a more common site, you couldnt make one where the wal mart sign is replaced by ASDA could you?

Looks good so far. Baco made a Wal Mart already, but maybe you can make a better one, however, that will be quite hard!

Well the problem with Baco's is that just my opinion but the roof sucks and its not a true superstore. You make great bats backo but i dont like your walmart and this one is looking really good.

It looks like your typical Wal-Mart, gigantic!  Looking good so far.  Just some more details and you're set.

Interesting side-note:  A new Wal-Mart Supercenter just opened up in my area last week, about 500 feet from the old Wal-Mart, which opened about 10 years ago. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/41.gif>

Thanks for all the feeback. The roof junk is done. All 10 million skylights and hvac units. My vid card is going haywire and I can't take a screen shot. Hopefully by morning I'll have it fixed.

The building dimensions are accurate. I'm taking this from the blueprints used to construct the building. The overall exterior dimensions are 500'x700'x36'. They aren't small folks.

When I release, I'll make the lot accurate to my store, but I'll make it so you can build your own parking lot how you like it.

I'll try to get a new shot updated by morning. L8r.

What do you mean by build your own parking lot? I would just add the parking lot in, it would save dummies like me a lot of trouble!

It's not hard to make a parking lot, just go into the LE, open up a small park, change the base texture to a parking lot one, and do save as.  If DuckTrooper expects people to make their own growables (which he has stopped doing, thankfully), then gilpo is not asking much by asking you to make your own parking lot.

I still wish someone would make one that would fit on a 6x6 lot so that it would be easy to make it growable.  Looks good though, regardless of whether it's something I'll actually use.

You should make it a growable, if you can.

    Ok, here's an update.
    /idealbb/files/supercenter3.jpg

Roof junk is mostly done. I couldn't find the blueprints for the roof initially, so I used the city's aireal photography web site to get a picture of the roof and copied it. I just found the roof blueprints today so I'll be fixing some things to get better accuracy.

    Things to do:
All exterior doors (no textures; all splines baby)
The garden center greenhouse and patio
    Finish general merchandise side vestibule
    Fix roof
    Exterior signing
    Final texturing
    Lot design

BTW, can anyone tell me how to make a chain-link fence?

Wow, its so huge!!!!<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/41.gif> But I guess thats good, because Wal-Mart supercenters are big and ugly in real life. It would look good in one of my suburbs.

Is the scale correct? Those houses look awfully big in the background of the second picture.

Not to start any problems but Pekeboo stired the pot when it comes to those Big Box giants but then again Pekeboo is to young for Big Box destruction of America problem. Now the blame isn't only Walmart but also Target,Lowes,Home Depot and host of other giants. Many here are to young or just don't give a dang about small business. There was time stores were no larger than the average house and the person waiting on you was most of the time the owner. All I ask don't turn SC into one giant big box try smaller stores.Thanx
