Heya! I joined the forums in 2004 and its been a blast ever since... been on a bit of a hiatus until july last year.

I got a quick Q though... where can I find my old CJ? Is there anywhere I can dig up my old work dust it off and show the world how terribble I was? Some sort of an Archive or summat?

Any of the members from wayback still come here? Got some stories to share?? Anyone remember the "Peg scandal" when a bunch o' dudes were stealing Peg's work and claiming it as their own over at sim city central prompting him to yank everything of his off of the STEX and form his own site?

well first off, welcome back to the world of ST 6 years later. lol

I'm very sure your CJ thread is still intact, but years of inactivity would most likely have it WAY back in the list of CJ's. You could try searching the name in the Google Custom Search bar above.

Edit: Hmm, didn't come up when I searched the name. Perhaps PMing an Admin for an inquiry would help.

I'm the 'A' to the 'r', to the c-h-e-a-n,
and even though my name means 'old' I'm really quite pimp,
I'm Archilicious.

Sadly, after a while (about 2 years after the last post has been made, I think) threads completely disappear.

A complete Google search came up with 44 results, none of them your CJ.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Oh hell, the "Peg Scandal". Now there's one I haven't heard in a long time! Yes, I remember that. I'm old. oy2.gif

As for your CJ, threads which haven't been replied to in the past two years aren't visible on the forum index.

You should, however, still be able to access it.... if you know the thread ID.

Basically, do you have the URL of your old thread saved anywhere? Maybe a screenshot that shows it? If you do, then follow this process.

The old (idealbb) topic URL format was thus:

https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID={X}

where {X} is the topic ID. For a thread from 2004. it should be a five digit number, probably beginning with 4 or 5.

There may also be more after that, ignore it, it's unnecessary.

Okay, now we just need to convert this to the new (FuseTalk) topic URL format:

https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid={Y}&threadid={X}

As before, {X} is the topic ID. Same number, didn't change.

What's different now is the presence of anpother variable, {Y}. This is the category ID - it identifies the specific subforum the thread is in. For City Journals, it's 36.

So long as the thread hasn't been archived (some old threads have been), you should be able to access it this way. But it hinges on knowing that topic ID number.

Failing all that, administrators can access old and/or archived threads readily, so an admin would be able to find your CJ for you... I wouldn't count on it, though. Whoever you PM likely has better things to do than find your CJ... and besides, a thread that's been inactive that long is probably best left that way.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
If you can read this, you deserve a cookie.

    Hey! I'm an old Simtropolite, too! I joined in about 2004 under a different username, ATPjohn (had to make a new account in 2005  for whatever reason).

    Can't remember exactly when I joined but usership stood at about 10,000 then. Like you, I went on hiatus, too. Have been back a few times.

    And yeh, the Peg scandal lol. Many of us were encouraged to boycott another SC4 website. simcitycentral I think the name was. Weird site anyway, whichever it was.

    Edit: *****. I read 'simcitycentral' in the original post as another website, lol

    Lol I wondered where all the off topic boards went

    https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/index.cfm?FTVAR_SUBCAT=132&subcatname=Simtropolis%20Forum

    And yeh, the Peg incident is pretty much was said in the original post. Pegasus was probably one of the most prolific authors on Simtropolis back then, so he came out of it fine and continues to make excellent BATwork to this day. This was arguably the start of overzealous copyrighting and having readme.html forced upon you by installers

    which I helped popularize many years back

    Ah, I want to honestly express my opinion but this would get me in trouble with the moderators for language!

    Seriously, how can anyone steal his work? He does fantastic work & I continue to use his mods today.
