Anyway to have the landscape flatten under the roads automatically?

Hi,
Is there a way to make the ground under the roads flatten out when I lay down roads and Highways?

It sometimes looks seriously whacked when the roads are all bumpy up and down.  I don't mind when the roads have a mellow curve up and down with the landscape, but sometimes it gets really sharp up and down undulations and doesn't look right, would be better even if the roads just flattend out the landscape underneath them all the time in my opinion.

Thanks

I know what you mean, you can place a road before and after the bump, delete it, and remake the road. When I'm in really hilly areas I manually set the height of the road in small sections. If the sections are relatively small (about the length of two normal houses) then they will not bump with the terrain but will stay straight. I am always using small roads to terraform bumpy areas too, and have almost never used the actual terraforming tool.

When you're building a road up a hill for example, try to build the road all the way up the hill in one single time.

When I tried to build it in small pieces at a time, the road was like a staircase.

After I build it all the way of on the hill, the road was nice and flat (using curved roads). I think that when using the straight roads it might mess up the terraforming.

When I say use small parts of roads (and yes I only use curved roads in my cities) I assumed you'd be using shift to manually make the road look nice... So it doesnt look like a set of stairs.

I use the bridge tool when I want a nice smooth road over rough terrain, it's fairly expensive though!

Set the bridge tool to be at ground level then draw out your road. When you click build the tool lifts and cuts into the terrain just enough to form a smooth road surface. If you're building a slope, remember to click a few times along the path so that your road follows the general rise/fall of the hill - you don't want an actual bridge or tunnel 4.gif

I've used this for a few expressways and avenues through non-build up areas in my cities. You end up with a road that is built like most modern highways and roads are build in real life. I'd recommend replacing the "bridge" once you're finished with a normal road though as a km of bridge is much more expensive per month than a km of road.
