My old computer died Wednesday. I tried installing Sim City 4 on my new computer but it won't even start. I tried clicking on everything but nothing works. It seems to not be compatible.

Unless they changed it from Vista, you can find most of the more relevant information on the "Welcome Center" screen. If you disabled it from opening on startup, you can find the "Welcome Center" in the "Control Panel" under "System and Maintenance" (or just "Welcome Center" if you are using classic view).

Near the top you should be able to see your operating system (Windows 7), processor (Intel/AMD etc.) and its clock speed (in GHz), the amount of RAM (in Gb), and your graphics card (Intel/Nvidia/ATI).

I'm pretty sure if you have Windows 7, you system should be able to run SC4. The problem is probably somewhere else. Some thoughts and suggestions:

% Did you already put in plugins, mods, buildings, etc? If so, remove them all and try again.

% Did you install all the patches?

% What sort of background tasks do you have running at the same time? (Virus/spyware scanners, Instant Messaging programs, etc.) Try disabling them all (they're usually the small icons on the bottom taskbar next to the clock and sound icon). Also close all other open programs before starting the game.

% I've heard that not having sound enabled or not setting the audio acceleration correctly can cause crashes. Have you touched any of the sound settings?

% Are you sure it was installed correctly? Did any errors pop up while installing?

% Perhaps running it in a resolution smaller than what your computer can support will help. Check this Omnibus article to see how to do it.

Also look in the Omnibus for articles related to technical issues. A list of troubleshooting articles is found here.

As a last resort, you can try reinstalling.

I have installed SC4 Deluxe on Windows 7 32 bit, and 64 bit, no problems.  You may have a problem with the disk, or you are not logged in as administrator.

I can't even get it to start installing. BTW most of my other games when I tried installing them them I got something called a "1607 script error" but when I put the simcity4 game disk in to start installing literally nothing happened including when clicking on it.

I figured it out. I was puting in disk 2 instead of 1. Unfortunately, all my old stuff was lost and I don't feel like tracking down all the mods, etc. I really don't want to play the unmodified game, either.
