I must say that you have something great going on. The city looks amazing in every aspect. The transportation system, especially the highways, are very well planned. Maybe a few beautification areas such as parks in the downtown area might help. I know you said that it takes away from the realism... but the repetition of the same building in the same area also takes away from it 48.gif.  Another thing that I must mention are the suburbs. They look very well planned and very realistic.  Overall, this CJ is going in a great, positive direction.

Good luck! 44.gif

    Thanks for the comments!

gurrgkud: I'm working on trying to get some parks worked into the downtown skyline...thinking maybe along the Lake on the north side of the interstate would work.  I will tell you though....my suburbs are much greener than the cement and glass wonderland that is the downtown area.  Those will come soon.... 31.gif

    djrules5454_simtropolisedition: I'm kinda picky that way! 2.gif

newyorkrunaway1: Somehow I knew that one was coming....  there's always one .... 9.gif

Side note: The Milanta City Council has set aside funding for the rebuilding and remodeling of the Milanta SeaPort.  Stay Tuned...

StormyNight: Thanks, if you think those are ritzy areas though, wait until I show you the wealthy northern suburbs.... 2.gif

petriknl: Like I said to StormyNight, if you like the suburbs in this update, you'll love the outer suburb cities.  Also...for the farm land...I think we can find a place on this map.....  (notice the TIIIINY little speck of development that is the 5 large maps currently forming Milanta and its surrounding area. 9.gif

    Overall Traffic Layout:
Nice. The way you place the Highway inside and outside your city / downtown looks good. You don't have a lot of railway but that isn't a big problem (though I LOVE railways).

    City Layout:
Good placement of your downtown with the highrises. Also nice suburbs. I just wood recommend you to use either BRF Tunnelandslope mod or the equivalent from CSX to get more smooth streets/Highways but especially railway lines. Try to do a bit terraforming to make small areas flat and work the different elevation - allthough I am not a big terraformer like Jeroni or Darmok I must say this is sometimes as necessairy as beautiful.

But all in all: Very good work!

I agree that a bit of smoothing of some of the roads would be nice. I've been going back and smoothing many of the roads from my early days of playing and things looks so much better now. I don't know where the CSX slope mod is (I've been trying for a while to find it), but here's the BRF slope mod .

Overall this is an excellent start to the journal. Your region is very well designed, and the freeway system is great. The tunnel under Federal Park is excellent and reminds me of the Deck Park in Phoenix under which I-10 passes. The night shot of the riverfront looks wonderful, and the layouts of the suburbans areas seems quite realistic.

Looking nice so far. I noticed that you like making roudabouts with streets in your more suburban areas - maybe you should think about downloading the Cul-de-sac mod from the STEX.

Anyhoo, keep up the good work!

bienefeldt: Thanks for the comments.  That interstate under the park deal was probably the hardest part of the city so far because I hadn't ever really done a tunnel like that before, but it turned out kinda cool.

Nardo69: If rail is your thing, wait for some of the suburb areas.  Also, when I get into some of my rural development and what-not, rail will be a bigger part.

For you and oroen I've been working to smooth some of the roads...particularly the interstate and railways in my cities.  I think you'll notice it more in the suburb areas (which are newer developments so I did a few things differently).  Perhaps Milanta needs to set aside some funding for street repair.... 2.gif

hammo: I'll try and find that cul-de-sac mod

superchad: Patience patience my child...just kiddin.  The airport lies south of the city, I'm working on a little more development around it and then I'll get it on here in an update.  Most of my remaining updates of the areas around Milanta will be residential areas, perhaps with some small commercial sectors...and of course the airport.

Thanks a lot for all the comments folks.  I'll get an update up today.

I love everything.... But that big cluster of ultra tall brown buildings in downtown. Maybe you should tear down a few.

By the way, nice city journal.  I usually look at the mods and stuff that are used in CJs cuz I might want them.  And I dont know why my posts are showing up multiple times, all I did was type and click submit, sorry I cant do anything about that.

MayorTim: I really have no idea why I had that one area where 5 of those darn things popped up.  They haven't shown up anywhere else...yet.  There were originally 7 of them...I've since demolished two...but I have to take them down gradually or it totally messes up my demand stuff (each one houses 4000+ people).  When I tried taking all of them out at once, it caused about half of my downtown area to abandon....not good!

Tomirish: [Editted] You can now get the diagonal streets mod in the 7/25/2005 release of the NAM.  Thanks to MiniMark and vester_DK  below who posted that information.

StormyNight: Thanks again for your comments...they're much appreciated.

    Cheers.

Tomirish:The diagonal streets mod is now included in the new NAM which is found in the modding files on the left side.

Taken from the Diagonal streets mod forum:
    Date: 7/24/2005 10:01:57 PM
    Author: Teirusu

    Public service announcement!

Road Roundabouts Beta 03 and Diagonal Streets Alpha 02 are now part of the new July 25th NAM, please remove ALL of the custom files you might have from these two projects (The packages I posted here on this thread) and instead use NAM and the optional plugins it comes with!

Also, big thanks to Frimi for providing new textures to blend the diagonals to straights. These new textures are in NAM.

    That is all.

P.S. Always wanted to do that. 9.gif
