     Replies1.jpg

Patricius Maximus: Thanks.  I'm glad you like it so far.  Lets see if that promise works out...

bluemoose: Thank you. I recently 'discovered' the tram.  Of course, I knew it always existed, but never really played with it.  I like it a lot so far.

Korot: It does need diversity.  I've added a few more BATs to my plugins now, but you won't see the changes until update 3.  I'm slightly ahead of what's being published.

Benedict: Thanks... but there is no bridge on the las picture.  I presume you mean the one on the third from las picture.

DCMetro34: Thanks a lot. I hope it continues to impress!

ComputerGuy890100: Thanks.  I'm glad you like the parks... as I made them myself, textures and props included.  They're not available on the STEX, but maybe in the future.  They need a bit of an overhaul.  If you look close some of the props are a bit messed up on zoom 4, and the textures need organising better.

Archean: Thanks, that's praise indeed! I haven't fully decided on what to do with the river yet.  I was planning on mostly natural banks.  I find that most wall systems make them to jagged, even the ones with nice curves like the Japan river walls you speak of.

    deathtopumpkins: Finally yes! Thanks.

crushedcar: Thank you. I look forward to it too, then I can move onto the next city/region!

Roger51: Thanks.  i'm English, so a lot of my inspiration will come from there, but I also don't fight the American-ness of SimCity4, so it will be a mix of British and 'New World' styles.  I hope I can make it all work.

mightygoose: Thanks.  There's only three road bridges in that tile (If you count the double spans as one). The rest are rail and tram.  There will probably be a few more road bridges added. Unfortunately, sims don't like to go the long way round, even with the NAM, so bridges are the easy option.  I agree with what you're saying though.

art128: Thanks.  See my reply to Korot ^ I agree with you.

tostartpressanykey: Thank you.  Actually I'll be going the other way, out into the suburbs before I dow to the city centre! Tall buildings will come in time... but not too many of them.  This isn't going to be a skyscraper jungle; just one or two highrises surrounded by a se of mid and low rises.

    Update 2: Interlaken - Spitalfields

Before I go on with update 2, I forgot in update 1 to link you to the Interlaken wiki entry. It's nowhere near completed, but for those people who like this kind of stuff, it gives you a little bit more info than I gave in the update. Linky linky link link

    2_Region.jpg

...The name of this borough is taken directly from the area of London. I'll do this a lot, and not always from London. I make no apologies for it 3.gif

Spitalfields is a large borough to the west of Interlaken city. The borough boasts its own high street and industrial zones, as well as the vast Spitalfields park, around which the borough is centred.

    Spitallfields-01-0010.jpg

    ...Overview of the borough

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0000.jpg

...Spitalfields park is the recreational centre of the borough used by thousands of locals each week. It is bisected by Interlaken's popular tram system which makes the park a key venue in the city's annual free music festival.

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0001.jpg

...Post war social housing built to satisfy the demand for affordable homes elevated by immigration. The blocks have endured their social problems in the past, but recent community initiatives have helped to stabilise them

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0009.jpg

...One of these initiatives is this community run all weather sports field. Regular inter-building tournaments are held in football and field hockey, helping to keep the kids out of trouble.

    Spitallfields-01-0002.jpg

...A tram heading through the park. Need I say more?

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0003.jpg

...The previously seen tram leaves the park and heads up Spitalfields high street. This mid-level shopping street usually has most of the consumer goods that locals would want. The office tower is the Laver Building, housing various tennants – none of note, and a department store on the ground floors.

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0004.jpg

...Local schools. This high school and elementary serve much of the borough. They share a large library which is also open to the public, and sports fields.

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0005.jpg

...On one of the main roads heading south (towards the airport), can be found many large stores. This portion of the road is served by the tram network, meaning extra custom from the city and suburbs. The road forms the western boundary of Spitalfields.

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0006.jpg

    ...Oooh look, another tram!

    Click for full resolution
    Spitallfields-01-0007.jpg

...Sports! As established in a previous update, cricket is quit popular in New Gelderland. Park cricket is played by a wide range of the population, and it's not uncommon for spontaneous, friendly games to arise between strangers. Good games can draw quite a passing (and transient) crowd, and some give rise to the establishment of often short lived community teams... oh and there's another tram!

Cricket? Wasn't that the game where you play balls thourgh small, iron gates, in a certain order, using a large wooden hamer? Or am I mixing up games?

And you mentioned an airport, as we going to see it soon?

This looks really good. Although I am not a fan of Cricket I bet the citizens will enjoy themselves lol. May I ask where you found the Rugby pitchs? And do they play mainly League or Union - lol. Like the british touch you gave to it. Very nice.

Another fantastic update Paul, I must say that park is really wonderfully done. Everything is well done here and the tram line that goes though the city is nice. I really love the estate too, not too big and not too small, perfect ! Good job with all the diagonals and non-diagonals fillers they seems to fit perfectly there, like the Laver building (I believe the original name isn't Lever ? ). Great work too with the transition from buildings (W2Ws and towers ) to the houses and great job with the commercial strip.

Benedict: Thanks. nope, you won't have seen these particular cricket pitches before because I made them myself.  (see below)

Archean: Thanks! Mastah? Surely not. It's all down to Mattb325's houses. They really make suburbs much easier on the eye. Those diagonal fillers were the main reason I created the set in the first place! See below for more on that.

Korot: You're getting Croquet and Cricket mixed up! Cricket is the English version of that travesty that is baseball. I'm surprised you don't know cricket (perhaps you were joking), because the Netherlands have one of the better teams in Europe outside of Great Britain and Ireland... although all the Dutch players still have real jobs too as far as I remember. You can see a glimpse of the airport on the region pic in update 1. I'll be showing it soon-ish, but it's not finished yet. All in good time.

TekindusT: Thanks. Custom lots yes, with custom textures and props... see below.

iGod: Thank you. I don't understand why you're not a fan of cricket! Everybody should be! The rugby pitches I made myself (see below), and are marked up for Rugby League... the far superior version of the game. I personally detest Union! They should call it Rugby Tennis instead.

DCMetro34: Thanks. I made the fence&hedge props myself... see below for more on that.

Roger51: Thanks a lot. I'm glad you like it.

bluemoose: Awesome you say? Why thank you! I made the parks (props lots and textures) myself. See below for more

art128: Thank you. I can't remember what that building is called. It may well be Lever, but I'm not sure. I plucked the name out of thin air (or subconciously from memory perhaps) as I was writing the update and just changed a letter! Let me know if you were looking for that building and I'll get the real name for it for you.

ComputerGuy890100: Thanks. You may see the parks on the STEX someday... see below.

Archean(2): What?!! You're joking right? That's Polo you're talking about! Cricket is the one with a bat and ball. Polo is quite popular within certain circles in America if I remember rightly, but cricket is not, so I forgive you.

crazychickensc12: Yes, but I would put it as 'baseball is like cricket where they use that round metal bat thing'. Green is good in my view. Not entirely realistic I'll admit, but green is better for my eyes.

TmiguelT: Thanks! More awesome pictures I can't promise, but certainly some more pictures.

    _______________________________________________________________________________

A note on the parks I use: A few people have asked or commented on the parks I'm using, so I'll take this opportunity to talk about them here.

The sports fields, trail paths and hedges are all part of the same complimentary series meant to be used in combination to make large, customisable parks. I made them purely for personal use initially, to fill various gaps in my cities. Though I made them for personal use and didn't intend to release them. For that reason they are made according to my own taste and aren't really very 'release friendly'.

They're all (apart from the sports fields) 1x1 lots numbering about 40 separate lots in the park menu so they add a lot of clutter to the game. They are all treeless too, which is fine by me as they're intended to be used with mayor mode flora and I can cope with the tedium of plopping them, but this might not be what people want.

The props too, are not fantastic. The hedges are all 16m sections, so they look horrible on slopes, but they satisfy my personal needs. Plus there are errors in the exports of the benches.

Thanks to all those who have enquired about them though, I'm willing to make them ready for release. There's quite a lot of work to be done though to make them STEX frindly, namely re-making the props (and therefore re-editing about 30 lots), and adding some form of placement helper prop like the ones in the BSC parks, which I don't yet know how to do. The textures are in a general texture .dat file too with other textures I've made.  I'd need to do some organisational work on that file before they'd be ready for release.  Because of all this I can't promise a time frame for release, but you'll hear about it here first. There's also the problem that I pretty much copied the style of BSC textures and made expansions of them!

Update 3 is coming up... Its got lots of pictures...

    Remembers trick from Iron Coast

Hmm, you now how much larger the citytile looks in region view compared to your picture of only the city?

...The south eastern portion for Greenwood industrial district – seen in previous updates. Here you can see a portion of the residual woods that give the area its name.... the trees are green and made of wood, you see.

    quote>

There are trees that aren't green and made of wood? 3.gif

Also, which trees are Greenwood? Those near the western border of the tile, or those below the industrial district, near the interchange?

    Tram Linequote>

Is it just me, or did Conexion expand their business to New Gelderland?

Where did you get that GLR station, if I may ask?

… Close up of the pond in Hendon Park... and perhaps showing off the HD-ness of my propsquote>

Since the culverts aren't all blurry, this must be a zoom 5 shot, and no model should be/is blurry at this level. Thus, why are your benches HD? In fact HD should be blurry-ish at zoom 5, and they aren't.

...On West Park Road one of Interlaken's many US style box-store strips has sprung up.quote>

Why isn't that street connected to the street very close to it? Looks odd to me.

    Trumpet Interchangequote>

Nice trumpet, though I think that the width of the lanes are to wide. Now an RHW-4 splits into two RHW-4's, which seems unrealistic to me, two MIS lanes would be more appropriate in terms of (real world) capacity, or perhaps one pair of ramps to be RHW-4, if they're in the most used direction. Of course, in SC4 that doesn't matter, but still. I do like the use of smooth curves though, they give a much more rounded effect to the trumpet.

...Heading north up the M111 we pass this little thing, which is junction 1.quote>

The way the MIS roads intersect with the roundabout looks weird to me. Those road roundabouts just don't seem to look nice to me, when diagonals are involved at least. Perhaps with the OWR roundabout I'd like it better, but of course, its your CJ.

    Junction 2

What is happening at that roundabout on the right side of the picture? Is there a RHW-2 running on that side?

but because it connects freight the ocean ports in the north and south.quote>

Odd sentecne, it looks like there's a word missing. Also, in the picture, the side tracks near the cranes on the left side of the rails are to short, they should be longer IMO to accomodate larger trains.

That was a biggie. I'm not sure how long my free photobucket account will hold up if I keep linking to full size images like this. I might have to start resizing at some point... or pay for pro!

    quote>

Even if you resize, you'll eventually will run out of bandwith. Solution: use multiple accounts, are use another immage hosting service.

    Korot

I have to say that I absolutely love New Gelderland - every single part of it. I like your building and planning style, psander5! And what can I say about the latest update... well, it surely didn't disappoint. I think the explanation of why the area is named Greenwood is ingenious in its basicness; It reminds me of something Terry Pratchett woud have done if he was to explain an etymology of some name in Discworld novels... Anyways. Park is very nice, I love these two ponds connectedby that small tunnel - I have to admit that the flora around them looks just right, you haven't used too little of it, or too much. I am not entirely sure why, but I like the Y-shaped interchange of GLR in the middle of area... Seems to me that it's just where it should be, and I can't imagine the other place in which it could be lcated. The next pictures showcasing the (beautiful I have to admit) mattb's houses and the commercial area along the main road are great as well, and I especially like the one with big shops in the shape of boxes along West Park Road - maybe it's due th the little path on the back of the ones on the right hand side of the avenue. Trumpet interchange between M1 and M11 looks good I guess, but I can't really say anything about the 'usefulness' of it, since when it comes to transport, the most elaborate interchange I've ever done was a roundabout made of One-way roads. 2.gif One final thing I like is the sportsfield next to the South Hendon elementary school, which looks good, and I love the use of diagonal filler lots there.

Overall, great work, psander! I'll be sure to come back for some more New Gelderland soon, since it is truly a standout CJ! Keep it up! 1.gif

    ~Piotr

Edit: Alright, I looked some more at the industrial area of the city, and I think that if there was anything that could be improved in terms of looks in here, I guess it would be it. Is every road here needed per se? I think that some of them can be removed in favor of streets. I don't know how's the traffic in the area going, so I'm speaking from clearly theoretical point of view. This zone can also be improved IMO by downloading some custom factories, etc. I would especially recommend the works of great Jestarr, most of which can be found on LEX [linkie]. There's also plenty of bigger and smaller industrials here on STEX. From here I would especially recommend Industrial Logistics Lots by Diamond - I think they will fit in your city. 2.gif
