So one day i was doing a search for how to take care of black mores. I got some results. I then went to one of those results. It didn't have much info. Then i went back and all the sudden it takes me to malaware. Avast! goes beep beep beep caution a virus has been detected. I deleted it and tried another search on a diiff. day. I t did the same thing but then it gave me this TDMLCMD.dll rootkit. this popped up every 5 secs. Finally i shut off my computer then after 12 hours i turned it on and windows wouldn't start. i tried it agian. Same thing happened. Then I put my head on the desk and cried. after several days the computer was untouched. Today I turned on the computer and windows said the config file was missing. The great thing was that all it needed was the recovery disk to fix it. Now as we breathe the thing is working fine. I'm going to delete the file so my computer works w/ out rootkits.

Er... sounds to me like you ran afoul of a nasty site. Perhaps it was hacked, perhaps it was intentionally set up to be an attack.

Either way, though, in what way is this Google's fault? Stuff like this can happen to you when you explore unfamiliar areas of the internet. It's why you have internet security software.

Another interesting question: on the google results list, did the text "this site may harm your computer" appear under the link you clicked on? They're usually good at detecting that stuff. I know Firefox also has a built in alert for such things, as do some internet security apps (McAffe has SiteAdvisor. Norton also has one, but the name escapes me at the moment. There are no doubt more.).

Besides fixing your alarmist title, maybe you should install a properly working, trusted anti-virus. Try a title like "I was attacked while surfing." Not very interesting as it has happened to a lot of us.

If you are worried about google, try switching to bing.com. I am not worried about google because I have never had a moment of trouble with it.

Be careful about that. Sometimes what's made to look like an "X" to close something is in fact just part of the thing you don't want to click on. Banner and pop-up ads used to be notorious for this. It's fathomable that a virus-induced alert might do it as well.

You can also bring up the task menu & force close your browser it does the job on

closing those pages, then it's best to delete your temp internet files & at least  do a

quick scan with antivirus software.

Never hit ok(or even cancel) on any of those messages or you will allow the file on

your computer in most cases it waits for you to allow it before it adds the rest of the

files to your computer. The major problem is when those pop up they lock your browser

trying to force you to click ok or cancel,Ether of which results in more Viruses.

For those of you who are not programmers, you should know that any control in a window, even a pop-up is available to the programmer. The minimize, restore, and kill buttons are available as click events, just like any other control.

The only real way to kill a process is probably though the process manager (ctrl+alt+delete) on most machines. Drastically, you can shut down, hopefully without pushing the power-off button which can lead to a file system disaster.

Virus hackers depend on people being unaware of what is happening which is why I don't believe that anyone without some basic training should be allowed near a computer. There are just too many predators out here.
