Simcity 4 crashes when using shallow valley tool.

Update:  Apparently it extends further than just the shallow valley tool, it extends to all the lowering terrain tools.  BUT... Only if I use them first.  I just tried out some experiments where if I use any of the tools to raise the terrain, like the mountain and hill tool the game is fine.

If I use any of the lowering tools after using the afore mentioned tools, they work fine again, and no crashing.

It seems it's only if I try to use any of the lowering terrain tools first before using any of the raisinging tools that the game crashes.

Hopefully that will help somebody to help me to get this sorted out as it's not a problem to use the raising tools first to put a bump on the map if all I want to do is use the lowering tools to create a river, it's a problem to remember to do so, which means it would be great to just get it sorted out so that SC4 works like it always used to work in the early days for me (again, no plugins installed).

Hello,

I don't know if the problem extends further out than just this tool, however everytime that I go to use the God Mode shallow valley tool to dig a lake, the game exits to the desktop without warning before or after the crash.

I have removed all my plugins, (all 4GB of them) and the game still continues to crash when I try to use the shallow valley tool.  All I need to do is to select the tool, place it anywhere on the map and just hold down the mouse button, I don't even need to move it around to actually dig, just hold it in place and I hear the rumble of the tool supposedly in action (though nothing is showing on the screen as being dug) and then the game exits.

Does anybody know the solution to this crash?

Again, I have Removed all plugins so my plugins folder is completely empty.

Thanks,

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers for my video card version 196.21

Computer:

AMD Phenom

8GB system RAM

Nvidia 275 GTX

Windows 7 64 bit Professional

This is usually caused when you have used a slope mode and then changed to another..(I'm kind of speculating here.. I don't have proof)  I have seen it happen before.. not sure exactly why. As an experiment try removing ALL of your plugins and re-entering the city and try it.. does it crash then? I had a city like this.. of course this is not a desirable condition as you lose your props and buildings in the city and have to rebuild (so dont' save it).. For a city I had like this I had to go into SC4TerraFormer to do geographic changes.. I was never able to get it to stop doing it. In my case it only crashed in certain terrain locations, not all over the map.. I went into SC4TF and lowered it and was able to go back to the city to "tweak" to the final configuration. Kind of a pain, but its the only solution. Unfortunately the SC4 save-games keep a "history" of your work and if you violate certain conditions, it will crash even though it will work fine in other cities.

Hmmm... just a few moments ago (in an old thread where I discussed my problems with this kind of issue) Diggis pointed out that he may have related this issue to a "god-mode" tree controller. Are you using any tree-mod controllers? or have you changed one since you first were using the city without crashing?

HERE is a link to that thread if you care to read it.. I don't know that it relates too much to your specific issue, but you may find it of interest.
