replacing content as opposed to just adding content

Hi

I've been reading posts for the last few weeks and experimenting with different mods before I begin building a functioning city. One thing I'm trying to get my head around is whether you can remove some of the Maxis buildings and replace them with custom content or does custom content just give you more variety.

My absolute pet hate is the amount of smoke stacks that pop up in industrial areas. It might have been semi accurate  circa 1920 but these days the majority of wetern cities industrial area is covered with warehouses of brick or corrigated iron.

Most content, other than some automata mods, texture mods, and some ploppable things, do not replace Maxis items. You might try the Maxis Building Blocker Mod to block some growable lots so that custom lots will grow instead.
