real 3d in sc4

Hello. I play Sim City 4 for a few years and my Cities look well in general. But I think all of you agree that the city's skyline looks the best when you watch it from the ground just like the 3d engine in Google Earh. My question is: "Is there any tool so that you can watch your cities from sc4 in real 3d just like Google Earth? It's not nessessary to introduce that 3d into the game itself, but that tool might operate from the outside, i.e. the tool s seperatet from the game." PS.: Animations like traffic and stuff are not important.

I'm afraid it's impossible. The way SimCity simulates 3d means the game depends on its fixed perspective view. Instead of being true 3d models, SC4 buildings are fixed images projected onto a very simple 3d box. Changing the perspective (ie street to level), would make these projected images skew to an unrecognisable mess!

The only way to get the view you're thinking of is to fundamentally change the game. It would be far simpler to make a new game completely from scratch... or you could just play Cities XL instead 9.gif

Ok thanks. I regret to read this but I thought if the models of the buildigs are made in a real 3d programm whould mean that the real 3d graphics will be used furthermore in the game itself. I tried Cities XL, i.e. I was one of the Beta testers. The graphics are great but the deepness of the game feeling isn't a comparisson to sc4. Sim City 4 is the one and only and simcity societies sucks. If the creators had created a sim city 4 with a real 3d interface and without those kiddy kindergarden models of the buildings, it whould have been a bestseller.

It was a bestseller anyway, I believe... (or did you mean Societies? 3.gif) But the reason they did it that way instead of making it full 3d was that the computers of the time couldn't handle realtime 3D rendering PLUS the complex simulation.  Nowadays graphics cards have improved tremendously and take most of the 3D work off the CPU's hands... that's why they were able to CXL is full 3D.

Yeah, i am VERY mad there is no 3D in simcity 4. However, societies has 3D, which I totally loooooove and 3d is something I want in a future simcity game, if there is going to be one.
