You may try out our modification:

Higher VeryLow settings for powerfull old cards

Description: "This mod enhances the detail level for users who own graphic hardware that is underestimated by MC and locked to Very Low Settings because of lack of Pixel Shader 3.0. The mod is available in 2 flavours, choose the one that best matches with your hardware: Higher: Pushes detail level a bit higher, with custom settings somewhere between Low and Medium for most settings, but disabling shadows, which will make game crash without pixel shader 3.0. Highest: Pushes detail level beyond the highest available in game. When cars are displayed, they will never look like boxes anymore, but will look like cars instead. Shadows are disabled in this one too."

Yes, you need to register  in order to download any modification from our site. As long as everyting is described in English nothing should be unclear. 2.gif

It seems the problem is / was (at one time anyway) that when game started at lower resolution it didn't have enough room to show the higher resolution choices in the list, so one had to grab the highest shown, then restart to see the rest. I found this quite amateurish for a game to do this, but seeing as it was beta at the time I figured they'd work it out eventually to be more like other retail games when it went to market.
