Appalled by download speeds

I am trying to download a 6mb file from STEX and the speed in only 5.4kb/s. That is like dialup speeds. This is not at my end because I can download things at nearly 500kb/s. Is this intended?

Occasionally, the STEX may be slow to the point of "dial-up" levels. There are multiple reasons for this, mainly the traffic load and bandwidth limits (server side, not per client).

Dirk is doing everything he can to make the downloads be as fast as possible.

The reason the downloads are slow is becsue of bandwidth, its needed to run everything here, loading pages, downloads etc.

After the influx of new people here for cities xl there have been alot more users which means the site uses more bandwith

And Bandwidth costs moeny, there is only so much that dirk can afford to buy. He does all of this and offers it to you for free. He pays for the bandwidth out of pocket, donations are the only thing he has to pay for the site. So as long as bandwidth contines to cost money (it always will) the downloads will be slow.

Hi im new here and appreciate there's a nice site for SC4 but speeds really are horrible, seems a shame such a great looking site has this huge issue and im surprised i didn't see any talk of it before i signed up, surely free hosting can be used?

Not for the volume of items on the STEX and the amount that is downloaded daily.

We're trying hard to get the download speeds up to scratch. I recommend downloading in off-peak times (i.e. early mornings in the American timezones) and on weekdays. It's generally faster! But yeah, your totally right; things need to get faster. We're trying our best! Stay tuned...

The new NAM, RHW, and NWM mods have been released. I am sure there are plenty of users downloading them, hence the slower speeds. I am sure it is only temporary.

i had that problem before, try downloading earlier in the morning. i downloaded the May 10 NAM this morning...it took 2 minutes. which is alot better then 20 minutes.

I haven't downloaded the NAM's new release yet, however be greatful we have an awesome place to download our custom content. Even if the downloading speeds are slow at times you can plan your downloads accordingly and download on ST's off-peak times.

Downloading speeds have and probably will continue to be slow from 12-9PM EST, I really don't care much because usually if I cancel the download and try again it usually goes a bit faster. But in case it doesn't I cancel it and wait for tomorrow. It's not like it's going anywhere, and you certainly lived without it before. If you want to help and you have money go donate to Dirk $30 gets you a cool CD pack that basically makes it so you don't need this site anymore. With the exception of the forums and updates to the NAM, lol.

For those who know more about this site are there days where "dirk" has the site closed due to maitenence and you can not get onto the site? I have had days where I have tried getting on from my two home computers  so i even tried it by getting in on my neighbors wifi.. shh dont tell them... and still no luck.

I have not experienced any slow downloads here which I am glad that is! I do download most of my stuff at night like late when I am done with works
