MURRAY ISLANDS

I've tried two abortive CJs before using maps of Prince Edward Island. I think the reason is the map is just too big and I lost interest. I've decided to try it using a smaller map. I am using a modified variant of this map: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=12813

The plan is to start with a rural community, and build it into a city, while simulating realistic growth patterns and limits

Our story begins with the independence of three islands in mid Atlantic. Each island was colonized by a different country, and all three are different, at least at the beginning. All three have thrown off the shackles of colonialism and are ready for freedom.

There are three islands that make up the new nation.

Dundas Island, in the centre, is the most developed of all. Despite being the smallest, it contains a large portion of the population (if I can fit it, it will be the most populated island) It is the location of the new capital.

St. Clair Island, in the north, is also well settled. It's transportation system is based on the railroad, and the rails branch off every which way and direction. The settlement patterns can be best described as "erratic"

Dufferin Island, in the south, is the largest island by far, but also the most under-developed.

Decisions had to be made after union as to how to run the new country. Each island had a different development pattern. Dundas Island, and St. Clair Island were run as single units, with a single Island-wide municipality. Dufferin Island, however, had clearly sectioned off lots that were run as townships. Adding to this is the fact that a wide 'greenbelt' was mandated between townships. The townships are boringly square, and do not always take geography into account. It was decided that the new nation would use the existing Township model and expand it to the other islands.

The nation is a democracy, and the politics of the day may end up dictating development.

As a reader you take the role of a viewer of a ongoing documentary series on the islands. The first episode is about to start, so curl up and watch!! .

Our story begins with the monthly meeting of residents in the town hall, which is also the town's fire hall.

    Town/Fire Hall

At the meeting, residents discussed issues that affected their seaside village.

    Coxwell

The town of Coxwell was, in fact, both rural and agricultural in nature.

    Coxwell Farms

The town's size is limited in part due to the strange laws of the land, which divide everything into neat little squares

Put another way, here are some pictures to start you off 4.gif

Wow! Great start on your CJ! I love your square city!

I suggest downloading more custom content on the STEX, LEX and PLEX. First off, get the Netowork Add-on Mod (NAM), found under the NAM Team's uploads. Good luck!

Thanks! I already have the NAM and am fiddling with RHW's to make them work (I'll upload a pic of an idea I have)

I could use more rural themed custom content, especially growables. Ideas are welcome!!

    Nice start!

Rural growables are very hard to come by. One good thing is the Rural Variety Pack, which gets rid of those ugly grain elevators(for the most part). For aesthetic purposes, try using the "Farms Fences" by suico.
