Some personal reflections

I wanted to take a moment and share something with everyone at Simtropolis.
In April of 2009 my wife found a place on her neck that seemed to be about walnut size and moved freely under her skin. She went to the doctor and they schedule surgery to remove the place and perform a biopsy. The week before surgery she started have chest pains and pressure on her lungs. She went in for a chest x-ray and they ended up canceling the surgery and performing an ultrasound biopsy of the area.
The results come back on April 29, 2009 and she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). She went through several months of chemotherapy in which the results showed a decrease in all tumors related to the cancer. She had her last chemo session on November 4, 2009 and we expected, along with the doctors, that she would be cancer free. After her PET scan the doctor was surprised to find one of the tumors had increased in size and was resistant to all the chemo she had to date. They quickly moved to remove this tumor to insure it was not an infection and make certain it was not another cancer. The biopsy was returned again as being Hodgkin’s. Since all Lymphoma’s are systemic in nature you cannot just remove the bad cell and be done. She will require a more aggressive approach with more treatment possible including more chemo, radiation, and perhaps a bone marrow transplant.
At the recommendation of her oncologist we will be traveling from Charlotte to Chapel Hill (UNC Medical Center) to see a doctor there and determine the best course moving forward. I share this with all of you because of our bound of friendship and the caring nature of members here!
Both Ann and I are thankful for the thoughts and prayers of friends and we include you with that group!
I will keep you posted on our progress as we have more information!
Peace –
Chris

Hello, Chris,

Thank you for sharing this with us.  I am so sorry that your wife has had to go through such a battle, and that you didn't receive the result for which you had hoped.  Having her supportive husband by her side I'm sure helps your wife to be brave in facing the next round of treatment.  I hope the trip to the university hospital goes well, and that the treatment there is successful.  I will be praying for you both, the rest of your family, and the doctors who will be treating her.

All the best,

--Liv

Truly you are a brave couple and I wish you all success with the treatment.  These days cancer can be beaten.  Your willingness to share this with us shows that you have the steam up to beat this thing.  Please let your wife know we are all pulling for her.
