Doesn't SC4 do that automatically when you create a new region? I never had to do anything with a text file when I created a region.

One of the files in the region folder is config.ini (or something like that). You can edit it with notepad, but I generally don't bother. Here's how you get SC4 to create it for you:

1. open SC4
2. create a new region - call it whatever you want your new region to be
3. exit SC4 or open a different region & leave SC4 running
4. copy your config.bmp to the new region folder (which SC4 just created for you)
5. go back to SC4, open this new region, and do the ctrl+alt+$%&^!+r thing to load the greyscale
6. wait while SC4 renders the new region...

Some people apparently create the region folder & the .ini file by hand (using the notepad). Don't really see the point, myself 21.gif

you dont need notepad to create a region. go over to our forum, Mapp Squad Board Room for more info on how to create accurate regions and lots of other stuff. You will find what you are looking for on how to make a map over there.

I just tried to look at why i couldnt start a region w.o water and the reconcile will keep coming up on all borders... It's hard to make your own region the config.bmp way when you dont have the notepad. And look in your regions folder see a notepad that has the settings..

Huh? What exactly are you trying to do?... I don't quite understand.

The 'notepad' file (region.ini) will be automatically created, as has been said. Also, if you use the program Landscape Designer it will create the region.ini when you create your region name.

But, as has been said before, there is no need for the file. Whatever problems you may be having without the file, you will still be having with the file. I think. 41.gif

I tried to make a new region.. i looked in the regions folder and there wasnt a new folder... If you read the text it sets the water level to a certain part and what not.. W.o you start off with water.. even though the main region pic shows land.. The outside borders are all water so you cant reconcile which makes it really hard to hand make your own region. This is why I kept having trouble and plus.. if you have cycledoggs terrain mod.. the region will lag if you dont have the file.
