Internet Problems

Recently, AVG messed us my computer. It updated itself and gave me a "There are no active components" message. I uninstaled it and replaced it with a new one. My probelm now is that I can't browse the internet. Whenever I enter a website and hit enter, Firefox gives me an "Untitled" tab. However, my new antivirus can update itself. I have been googling for days with no luck. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Is it only firefox that has this problem or do all the browsers have trouble connecting, if so it could be a firefox error, because you say that the anti-virus can update itself i assume that the internet is not the issue.

You probably have lost it and will have to re-install the OS.. I have seen antivirus programs do this before. Naturally I'd stay away from AVG from now on! The last I heard of one that would do that it was Norton (which also at the time could not be uninstalled!) back around 1998. I believe McAfee also went through a version with problems some years back

Reinstalling the OS would be the last option, have you tried to use the internet with Internet Explorer?

It's not the internet, it's probably some internet-settings..

You might have a MAJOR registry error, and it could be more helpful if you could state your system specs (OS, Virus Software, and possibly your processer and internet provider).

Things you might want to do before you reinstall your os is to 1) Do a FULL virus scan 2) Try a system restore (step back, helps to undo program issues) 3) DO NOT DO A SYSTEM RECOVERY/ REINSTALL OS UNTIL ABSOULTLY NECCESARY

Also, try to contact your computer manufacurer's warrenty department, if you have a warrenty, and try to see if they can help you.

Uhm. I can't do a system restore anymore as my computer has disabled it through "control groups" thing if I'm not mistaken. How can the processor have the problem? Oh. BTW, I HAVE had some problems with the PC other than that. Whenever I try to open up an application, the computer takes forever to load... Luckily, if my processor DOES have the problem, it is still under warranty. I was planning on reformatting my computer anyway so... There's that.
