I remember seeing this somewhere but for the life of me i cant remember where it was, but I saw in a screenshot someone zoned individual plots for industrial zones, a-la-residential/commercial.

Ive tried but i cant work out how it was done, all i get is the usual yellow area with no plot boundaries.

Im sure this is a really simple thing but it really is bothering me now, can someone please enlighten me!

If you look closely when you're dezoning you can see the arrows. You may be able to see them when you're zoning, but the arrows are a very similar shade of yellow.

EDIT: I guess that's what you meant?.....

I dont see anything other than the light yellow box?

The screenshot i saw had definitive borders & arrows?

I think this was something to do with someone making a hi-tech business park over old farmland iirc

Hold the CNTRL key while you zone.. that will generate an arrowed, individual lot

I still only get the plain yellow box holding CTRl, ALT or SHIFT?

Ive patched the game through the sim city site auto updater if this helps?

Don't know what to say.. I can hold down control and mouse the zone I want.. it will be made a single "plot" with arrows pointing toward the nearest road as SC4 interprets it. Of course this is TOTALLY unnecessary in most cases.. I only do it if I want a specific custom lot to develop (and of course the game must be READY for it in all respects, or it will simply redivide the lot according to those items in demand.)

Whether your patches are an issue I don't know. I put the patches in when I installed the game so have no idea how it behaves without them.

Do you have the Rush Hour expansion pack? Pressing Ctrl doesn't do anything without it.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Well I have the "deluxe" which of course is the same thing as "SC4+RH".. Personally I wouldn't even consider playing the game without one of those two. The basic SC4 is so limited I'm completely stunned at the gall of EA that they even sell the SC4 base package anymore. No matter which you buy they all cost about the same amount.. a bit of shopping will find any of them for under $20 including shipping (in the USA at least) I saw it on amazon/uk for under 10 pounds as well. Virtually EVERY custom download specifies thta it be either SC4+RH or SC4Deluxe as a functional requirement. For that reason I don't even discuss the base SC4 as a viable game

To get single industry buildings you need to zone in the area and have your bulldozer handy, bulldozing that you do not want as it comes up. Or conversely, if you don't care what is coming up then use the dezoning tool to dezone around the building. I do this a lot myself, but then I lay in a 8x8 or 9x9 block and let the sims do whatever for a while, then I pause the game and bulldoze those structures I do not like, make historical those I want to keep then I use the dezone tool dezoning one tile at a time, plop in plazas, parks or draw a winding road - whatever.
