FSH Texture Questions

Hello, everyone.  I've been attempting to create new textures for the Avenue Turning Lane Project ( for my own use ), and I've run into a bit of a problem.  For anyone who's curious, I'm using DatGen 4 as my primary modding tool.

Here are my steps:  1 ) Export texture in FSH format to the folder.  2 ) Open FiSHMan and export the bitmap.  3 ) Export the alpha.  4 ) Edit and save the bitmap.  5 ) Import the new bitmap into FiSHMan.  6 ) Import the alpha into FiSHMan.  7 ) Save the existing FSH file.

I put my test texture into a DAT for in-game testing.  The new mod worked - except for one thing:  the alpha is showing.

The texture I was working on was for Zoom Level 5, with the following TGI sequence:

TYPE:  0x7AB50E44  GROUP:  0x1ABE787D  INSTANCE:  0x5F433404

If there's anyone out there who would kindly show me the correct way to do this, I'd gladly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist!

What do you mean by the alpha is showing?

Did you mistakenly put the alpha map as the color? Or is your alpha map inverted, so the transparency is reversed?

ardecila - In the FiSHMan's Import Bitmap dialog - they ask for a bitmap image and a alpha image.  I put the bitmap and the alpha in their respective places, hit OK, and the texture had the alpha showing.

Normally the alpha would only show up in-game if the conversion process has failed, hasn't been done properly or the attributes of the image are wrong. It does sound like you may be using a different process though that is normally used to convert BMP>FSH (can't really say for sure from your post?). Unless you want to fiddle around with the properties of the opened file, I would suggest using the Batch Texture Processor (>Add Files). There is a very old thread somewhere that explains how to do this, plus the method can also be found in the InterchangeTutorial (in the interchange tutorial thread). If you're already using that though, just make sure you have the Is an overlay texture box selected. Otherwise, I would suggest posting pics of what the colour & alpha images look like, & what specific format you've actually got the images (ideally, they should be 24-bit Bitmap).

Tropod / digger313 - Those two things may be what I was doing wrong.  I'll have pictures of the bitmap and alpha images on a post here in the next 24 hours.  Stay tuned!

I will have a go with the new information.  Here's hoping it works!

Thank you very much for all your help!
