City Bulding Music.

Well, I've been tired of listening to SimCity's music since well...foreve (yup...even way back in the SC3K days).

I'm asking here, what kind of music out there would be good to build cities with? Or so to speak, what music from outside SC would work with the game?

Here are some examples of what I'm trying to get at here:

Now, a good example would be Coldplay's "Clocks"...it captures the emotion of surreality and eccentricity.

Mainly, it immediately reminds me of the SC3K menu screen.

Another somewhat 'surreal' track would include U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)".

SC3K at least, is quite known for its cuts of Jazz ("Central Park Sunday", anyone?). "Highway Blues",the ubiquitous sampling of Marc Seale in Windows' OS systems captures the sort of Jazz from SC3K.

Hope y'all can get what I'm trying to get at here.

Now, of course more genres than songs like these would be real nice...can someone give me a idea for 'suitable' metal in SC4? Hehe.

Thanks 9.gif

I started trying something I picked up while watching one of Haljackey's youtube videos. I started listening to the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack while I'm playing SC4. The composer for that show, Bear McReary is an absolute genius with music and there's quite a few memorable tunes to be heard. The music is mostly instrumental.

I'd like to suggest George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

-Steen Eiler Rasmussen, 1898-1990 (SimCity 2000 User Manual).

Go for something easy listening, preferably something you can sing along with. The Cities just fly by!

I just listen to a mix of the game soundtracks of SimCity 3000, SimCity 4, CitiesXL (only a part of it), Transport Tycoon Deluxe (a game from 1994) and Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (TTD's successor, 10 years later).

Beside that, I listen to my own composed music too, when playing one of the above games. The music genre of the music I created is mostly trance.

I have 3 suggestions: 1. Song 2 by Blur. Nothing like planning out residential zones and then hearing the immortal 'WOO-HOO!' coming out of the stereo (at full blast!)! Oh yeah! 2. Knights of Cydonia by Muse. Great gaming music, and gets you right in the mood. In particular listen to the end. 3. Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy. The only one that comes anywhere close to game-related and it's on GTA. A good listen and not too loud or aggressive.
