I was reading a couple of articles on the CXL main site and saw one that was interesting:  "Cities XL players show you what you could reach - Part 1" at this locationwww.citiesxl.com/index.php .

The article shows off two cities, one of which is named "Token", built by XIII_Wolf.  Here are some city stats"

Number of citizens: 16,566,162

Contracts with other players: none

Cash: 357,501,000 credits

Cash flow: 304,990

Unemployment Rate: 4%

I was particularly impressed by the fact that he acheived a population of over 16 million with no player contracts.  This to me suggests that similar cities should be possible in solo mode as well.

Even in PO mode, a city of this size with no contracts is pretty impressive.

So, are huge cities possible in solo mode?

Hmm... I'm not completely sure that "none" is correct... I can't imagine a city of that size with no contracts... the industry needed to support it would cause so much polution nothing else would work 3.gif

Actually, this does not mean that XII_Wolf did not use any trading while building up the city, only that, at one point, the city could sustain itself without relying on contracts. Many business buildings obviously.

Also, as this city was done in beta. Small changes to simulation that happened in between might make it more difficult currently to reach the same size without more intensive use of trade. 4.gif

Yeah, my beta city of New Rooley went bankrupt and all the contracts went. I lost all my shops (except for the landmark ones) and I lost my contracts and along with that, I went way down on fuel, agriculture, waste, electricity and some others, way way down, yet everyone still stayed. But then, with the last patch that came before the beta ended, everyone started leaving.
