somebody of you can tell me how to create arched windows

i`ve heard of several techniques

i really stuck at this part of my project

I need a few windows

and a main entry for the church

which has to be like

5m high + 3m arch + 4-5m depth

  • 1: Draw a rectangle (1)
  • 2: draw a U-shape with the line tool inside the rectangle (3)
  • 3: draw an ellipse where you want to have the arch (2)
  • 4: Convert the ellipse to a spline and delete the segments you don't need.

  • 5: Attach the other shapes you have created.
  • 6: Select the vertexes at those spots, were you have two (or maybe more) of them at the same place and then weld those

  • 7: After you have welded all these unnecessary vertexes convert this object into an editable poly (if you have the shape filled out (on one side) after you have done that then everything is correct, if not you probably did not weld all of the vertexes)

Now you can convert the object into an editable mesh, select the edges of the window and extrude them. You probably will have to smooth the object after that.

At least that's how I do it, there are other ways too..

Or you can use the Arch tool using Splines.

If you don't know what splines are - there's a section here at the Omnibus.
https://www.simtropolis.com/omnibus/index.cfm/Main.SimCity_4.Custom_Content.Splines_are_a_Snap

After that the Arch tutorial should be good. Make sure your vertexes are connected - because that is your problem. That's why it turns out wonky. Or you could just press the Weld button to close your spline. Working with Splines are much more accurate than lines, and arches are more curvier and have more customization than hand modelling a building. I prefer to punch in my numbers to get things more accurate. 4.gif

**Don't forget to extrude when your done with the spline(s)!

We, stardust, are the oddest observers of self (a.k.a. the universe).

I'm just a group of atoms typing this.

What do I know?
