In addition to what the article said, in Caracas we were going through a severe thunderstorm aswell. What a frightening coincidence, heavy rain, thunderstorms, flooding and then an earthquake. What a day for us.

I read about this yesterday afternoon when I got home from working outside in this late summer heat wave.  There sure have been a lot of 6.0+ quakes this past decade...

So far no reports of injuries or deaths? That's good.

The one earthquake I've been in just rattled things a bit. Sloshed water out of the hotel pool. Weird.

The largest quake I ever experienced was in 1971 which I believe was a 6.1-6.5 that rattled Southern California pretty hard that morning.  It literally threw me out of bed.  I wouldn't call it wierd, I would call it exhilarating.  There's nothing like the ground shaking under your feet that makes you feel more insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah, and it hasn't gone up here, either. Which I was surpised at. Usually natural disasters, wars, political turmoil, etc. in oil-producing regions cause a spike in prices on expectation (realistic or not) of a decrease in production in that region.

Didn't happen this time. Guess it wasn't a big enough quake.

Indeed, the quake did relatively little damage, it last less than 10 seconds, also, no refinery or oild field was damaged.
