So I downloaded gmax from turbosquid, got my registration and everything works fine. I opened it and looked around a bit and it's confusing for right now, but I just needed it for the BAT editor anyway. So, that being said, I installed SC4 Bat and it said the installation was complete, no errors came up, so I'm under the impression that was good. However, when I click on it to start the program I get the following error message "GMAXLOC variable not found".

Does anyone have any experience with this error? Not sure what to do here.

Check the Environment variables,right click your mouse button to bring up the menu on

my computer on your desktop or through start menu,select properties.Then on the system

properties menu that pops up click the advanced tab then click environment variables next

to error reporting.

Check under the(top)list if GMAXLOC is listed,you may need to edit it to add the proper path

to the gmax install location.Click edit then change the 2nd line to the correct path to gmax

Then click ok.

If GMAXLOC is not listed then you will need to add it so click new then add GMAXLOC to the 

1st line,then add the path to gmax on the 2nd line.Then click ok.

If needed:Examples of the gmax install path are:

C:\gmax\-default path

D:\gmax\

C:\Program Files\gmax\

D:\Program Files\gmax\-mine

It depends where you installed unless you used the default path.Use the correct Drive letter C,D,

E,F,ect of the drive you have it on.

Then test it by running gmax if it works your all set

This is the way to fix it if i have the info correct.I found a thread on this here on simtrop but i

lost it.I originally thought uninstalling then reinstalling was the only way to fix it but this should do it if done correctly.

I followed the directions and am just having trouble with the file path. Do I need to copy the path to the .exe file or am I looking for a different file? I tried following the path to the .exe file and got an error message saying Unable to launch application then gives the file path ending with "gmax12.exegmax.exe" I tried following the path to gmax12.exe and also cutting it off right before gmax12.exe and get the same unable to launch message.

You just have to add the path to the folder with gmax.exe in it.,

there is no need to add gmax.exe or another file to the path.

Okay, so when I click on SC4 B.A.T. a title screen pops up for Sim City 4 Building Architect Tool and then it disappears and Gmax opens on its own with nothing SC4 related there. Is this right? I wouldn't think so because if so, you wouldn't need the SC4 B.A.T. since it is plain Gmax that is opening.

That's it it's pretty much just gmax as long as it says BAT game pack next to untitled on the top bar &

you have the export options your good to go.

To check for the export options:

click the hammer icon below the material buttons right down from the close button. You should then

see BAT listed click that & export options should be there.

The game pack just adds the export options & setups gmax for use with the sc4 model format

gmax itself can't export to the sc4 model format without the game pack,so when making something

for sc4 you need to load the game pack.

please help im trying to do this exact same thing. i have the gmax file installed directly to my C:\ drive so when you go into the gmax folder for example it would say C:\gmax. i have tried what you said to do and so far i cant get anything to work. When i click on the sc4BAT application it gives me a notification saying: "Unable to launch application [C:\gmax-default pathgmax.exe]. [10b] " i know im doing something wrong and i really wanna get this up and running soon. i know this was posted a long time ago but please i really dont know where to look.

It should work if you typed the path correctly are the gmax files in the folder

you set the path to or is there another sub folder in there.If no sub folder,

Your Path should be C:\gmax\

Try typing it exactly like that,you or the softwaremay have forgot the \ after gmax,also i think

it's case sensitive so if the folder is all lower case letters type it like that.

If it still don't work Try uninstalling then reinstalling to the program files folder instead.

I had that same problem. Go to simcity.com and it has instructions on how to fix it exactly.

Whenever I want to launch the B.A.T. it says Unable to launch application [C:\gmax\gmax.exe]. [2] I want to bat soo bad but this message won't let me!

Did you try what i wrote above?

If so check to make sure you typed it correctly.

(Do not type gmax.exe in the line with the path as that will result in

that error it's not needed because the software will find it.).

C:\gmax\ is all you need typed if installed there,if you find gmax.exe

or anything else typed in remove it.

Other then that If it's not a gmaxloc error then i don't know what's going on.

What operating system are you using?

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling to the program files
folder instead.I don't have windows 7 as of yet to check things
myself.

Hi, folks,

This is my first time commenting, but I think I may have found the solution. I also was getting the "GMAXLOC unfound" error, so I edited the env variables, then subsequently got the "unable to launch... [10b]" error, and it has to do with having quotation marks in the variable value.

My GMAXLOC automatically had 'D:\Program Files (x86)\gmax' as its value, if you have this (or similar, but different path), just remove the single quotes and you should be aces. Also, don't forget the last "\" after gmax to complete the path.

Interesting that may be another fix,if the quotation marks ends up being

the problem.

Also, where is everyone getting the BAT and all of the BAT related updates from? The official site still has the updates to the game but not the BAT or any of the BAT updates.
