Most people around where I live... which is a red state on the map... say pop. But I prefer to say soda. I actually usually just say the brand name, which is often Pepsi.

On another note, if you guys go out and order, let's say a Pepsi... will you accept a Coke instead? I don't like Coke. I like Pepsi. So if the establishment carries Coke products, I go for a Sprite instead... which is far superior to Sierra Mist if you ask me.

Cherry Coke is ok I guess.

Most places if they carry one and you ask for the other will just bring you the one they have without saying anything. I usually ask for "Coke" by default, but I know I sometimes get Pepsi. And you know what? I don't care.

The interesting thing is that as of late, I'm going for Pepsi when it comes to bottles at the store. I just keep saying "Coke" as force of habit, and because it's shorter.

I say soda pop but whenever I ask for it I say, "anything citrus flavored, as long as it does NOT have aspartame" because I like lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, and any combinations of those and I am allergic to aspartame (makes my tastebuds swell painfully).

I suppose the map goes by state majority. It would be more complex, as linguistic features, such as accents and word choice, are rarely defined by political boundaries.

I would expect some people use more than one interchangeably.

On a complete tangent, Queensland defeated New South Wales 34-6 in State of Origin last night. It was almost 34-0, until a converted try by New South Wales in the 79th minute.

Not as much as Australian Rules Football, once described by The Onion as "a combination of soccer, rugby, and murdering people in cold blood". Rugby Union was once described as "a game where large men run at each other and then stomp on each other with spiked boots for 80 minutes".

All are probably dangerous than the US version. There's much less padding, and less stoppages of play.

Interestingly, the USA are the current world champions at Rugby Union, as they won in the 1924 Olympics. It has never been played at the Olympics since, although a shortened form will be played in the 2016 olympics.

What Larks meat by NL and AL was National League and American League... as in the two leagues comprising Major League Baseball. The team from my home town is currently the worst in the NL. I'm going to see them tonight when they play the White Sox.
