Are people in this game allergic to using highways and certain avenues?

I know this is a drum beaten over and over again but  it seems that no matter how much I put alternate routes: ie. highways, not many people want to utilize them and they still want to complain and abandon homes due to commute times. The subways and elevated els are seeing overuse. And GLR + El = disaster.  I designation a city for industry but no one want to take the jobs.  I'm using simulator Z ultra and the best it does is keep the traffic cop out of your face. Is there a simulator in NAM that show people a smarter way to travel and utilize the faster roadways better? All I want to do at this point is encourage and maintain growth and put the abandonment at a minimum.

I am using the NAM with simulator z with no problems in fact there is overuse. What probably is the problem is that's it not actually the shortest route, also even if it the shorter route what many people do and what I do to great succes is use 1 way roads to channel or "force" your sims unto the highway.

Yeah that works. I hate having a new avenue undermined by the fact that sims 'ratrace' through my residential neighbourhoods. I use one way roads to block traffic, but make sure that you can still access all the roads.
