Retexturing roads while using the NAM

Yeah, I'm kind of new around here, but I'm a bit familar with the modding community and such...

Anyway, I was wanting to retexture the streets, roads, avenues, and highways to make them all a standard gray concrete color, but for some reason, I don't get the correct textures from the dat files of the games or the NAM (which has the left hand turns that I need to work with).

Any help, suggestions, or things I need to do?

the amount of textures needed to completely replace just the roads numbers in the thousands......this would be quite the undertaking. as far as i know, you'd need SC4tool, the reader, gimp (or equivalent graphic editor), maybe a couple more i forgot.

basically you'd have to extract all the textures from the .dats using the reader, then make/modify every one to your liking, then use sc4tool to make the new set into a .dat with all the proper IID's for each tetxure.  there may be a better way, but its alot of work anyway you look at it.

I got the Reader, SC4 Tool, and Photoshop as well as Fishman, and I know it's going to be a lot of work, but for some reason, I can't get the correct textures of the games or the NAM mod (I get all the ones that don't include the turn lanes and stuff like that, unless I need to open a specific DAT file of some sort, which what I am trying to figure out...).

BDAJ89- I'd be happy to help you head in the right direction. It is a huge amount of work.

I can probably save you quite a bit of time with alpha masters that are already created and a spreadsheet of the IIDs indexed with where the current texture is located. I'd suggest, before you launch into this, you take a look at the last 12 pages or so of 3RR starting about here [linkie] to get a flavor for what you are up against.

    Let me know.

And those are just the Maxis replacements 4.gif

Trust me,there are a lot of NAM pieces that look a lot like the Maxis ones...just got done messing with removing wealth grass from the NAM / Euro mods , and that took me a good while. Also , when it comes time to start applying these to NAM models , you will have some trial and error matching the texture from the regular draggable transit. Like Choco and David are saying , this will be a monumental task!

I think I'll be able to handle this; after all, I've done some far larger and scarier things beforehand...

Anyway, I'd like a link to those things you were talking about dedgren, if you don't mind. (By the way, the link takes me to the picture like the one you have in your post).
