Yes happy 4th of July to all you Americans. Here today in Gravesend, Kent, England we had our annual Big Day Out. Carnival, Fun Fayre and Music on the promenade and in the Fort Gardens (built during Napolionic times to repel a French invasion by blowing their ships out of the water). Now it's a park/gardens.

Amen duke, Amen. I will be attending a BBQ later tonight, however since I live in the middle of a national forest I may have to forgo the blowing up tradition...sadly. =( Happy 4th everybody!

Charred mammal flesh and explosives... could there be anything more American?

Due to a sudden and expensive plumbing problem, I had to forgo the new gas grill my wife and I were about to get. No grilling for me this 4th. IMHO fireworks are just like setting money on fire to watch it burn, I don't play that game anymore.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

    Bah. Gas.

A real grill uses charcoal. 49.gif

What if I told you our family has both?

Personally, the gas grill is easier to operate, since it is quicker to warm up, but the charcoal grill has better taste.

Happy belated Independence Day to my fellow Americans at ST!

I avoid parades [i hate being in a crowd of pushy, inconsiderate people that need to be smacked upside the head for rudeness....], I could care less about fireworks, but I do like my barbecued steak [and I ain't talking about some wafer thin piece of sirloin, I'm talking a 3-4 inch thick slab of steak that could feed two fresh from cow], and corn on the cob on the fourth. I do hope that all my countrymen and women, boys and girls, had a wonderful 4th.

Having used both types of grills, I like gas better. The fine tuning of heat, instant temp adjustment, and the all-important side burner make it a winner.  Gas was also the choice of almost every contestant in the local Ribfest, a serious endorsement in a town that takes ribs as seriously as Chicago does.
