It was 103 there today , but not realy too bad, lots of shaded walkways and a few cooled buildings.

Best zoo I ever visited was the San Diego zoo in Balboa Park, just north of downtown, though I haven't been to a zoo in over 30 years.

That you could.  I'd like to visit the zoo again, but traveling 2500 miles to get there kinda puts a wrinkle in that idea.  In fact, I haven't been to the not-so-golden state since I left in 1984.
