What are the alternatives?

I was wondering other than Simcity Classic to 4 + SCS + SCC (Wii/DS) + SCDS + SCIPhone, what else can we play?

We gotta a handful of open source ones. I personally like Lincity/ -NG. There is a OpenCity. Then for the commercial one we got the giant Caesar and CivCity and not forgetting Monty's City Life/ Cities XL 

But what do you all think? What are the alternatives which we can kill time before EA gets our much-awaited game in the SimCity franchise?

SimCity 4 and Cities XL. If CXL turns out to be successful, it may just wake EA up and force them to make a real SimCity in retaliation.

Simcity 4 so far is the best. Wait and hope for the best for now. Hopefully CitiesXL will be a reasonably good game.

Simcity 2000 is also a great game but lacks a lot of SC4's versitility.

How about Cities XL when it comes out later this year? Or you could kill time with Simcity 4 (provided you have plenty of plugins to keep you busy ).

Perhaps you could explore a cousin genre to city-building, the "civilization" genre. My favorite is Galactic Civilizations. If you want to kill time, you should get this game. You can play it for hours on end, but still it is interesting.
