I have no plugins, and 10gb of ram... And mine still crashes... =(

Have you tried to launch game with "-CPUCount:1" parameter?

How-2-do on Windows: open shortcut to game with right mouse, choose Properties, on second tab you have Target box with directory to which shortcut points, add -CPUCount:1 line at the end of it (example "C:\...\SC4Launcher.exe" -CPUCount:1), press Apply, OK and launch game.

Also do you run SC4 with a 4GB patch? It will allow the game to use 4GB of dedicated RAM.

For reference, my shortcut looks like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -Intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -CPUPriority:high -d:DirectX -CPUCount:8 -w

Curious ... I lost a city that I'd been working hard on and looking at the crash logs, I had 2 GB+ of free RAM. I have 4 GB of RAM in my PC. Running this on a q6600 overclocked to 3.6 GHz (from 2,4 GHz). Passed the overclock stability test so it isn't that for sure. Thinking about getting a new video card.

Could cities be lost due to corruption of data?

Yes.  Most often caused by switching away from the program by selecting another window or using ALT+TAB to switch before a save completes.  This applies to all saves, including the ones that exit the region or game.

- CPUCount:8?

Was this just a typo, or something I haven't understood properly?

Since the program is doggedly single threaded I am not sure this switch does anything, but it does seem to stop CTDs.
