Simcity 3000 Game speed

I've been playing sc4 on and off, but the other day I wanted to play sc3000 again. The game ran just fine in vista and  had no apparent problems. As the city grew the game clock (game speed) slowed down, the games still runs fine, no lag, but the time almost stops. I hardly make any money because it takes a long time for a year to pass. i tried googling but most results seams to be on old preformance related issues.

Anyone know of a fix or something?

I would presume its exactly the same as NAM slowing SC4 down.

The game is trying to do too many calculations for your PC to handle...

Do you notice this issue with large cities in SC4 aswell? (700,000k plus)
