Essential Downloads and Mods based on my play style

Hey there all.

Just started playing SC4 again, and I have never really used the plugins before much, so I was wondering what you all would recommend as the 'must haves'.

To let you know the type of player I am, I like the eye candy of course, but also like some realism.  I have the deluxe edition.

  • I like my cities to have a wide variety of buildings, as opposed to the blocks and blocks of the same tenement side by side.
  • I usually play on easy, like to stay in the black.
  • I like to develop my cities more naturally - that is to say not do a huge grid of roads and other transportation networks and then backfill with RCI areas.
  • I like to do the whole interconnected cities in the regions - each city having a little bit of a niche or purpose.
  • I like to have neighborhoods that look more unique, not 6x6 plots - but find this hard to do - any tips?
  • I do not care for things that are really exploity - I need to have some challenge!!

I know the NAM is pretty much a must have for transportation systems.

If there is a topic like this already, please forgive me.  I did read through the newcomers thread, but wanted to get a bit more specific for the type of player I am.

Thanks

It would seem that we both like to play the game in a similar way. I never build two cities the same either. So in my opinion you need:-

Rush Hour, most downloads require it.

Nam, improves Transport of all types.

ExtraCheats.DLL, Allows you to do lots of things like changing city names, changing mayor names, getting rid of no road and no job zots, as well as getting extra cash if you run out.

No abandonment mod, stops abandoment for chosen number of years.

Less advisor messages, does what it says.

I use all of these.

I would say that based on your style, you would only need to download lots of growable lots. After that, everything depends on imaginative transport networking. A good suggestion would be to use Google Maps to look at how real cities are like.

Some good sources of Growable lots:

Hong Kong BAT Team

Lowrises:

porkissimo

madhatter106

ill tonkso

And many more.

The Grand Railway Station Fix is still available at https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=2432 ... Unless that is another one.
